Check out the Launch Trailer for Sektori, a twin-stick arcade action shooter developed by Kimmo Lahtinen. Players will shoot through vibrant colors, fast-paced techno music, and intense stages to achieve a high score. Take on waves of enemies across five evolving stages to acquire upgrades and engage with the game's six modes from Classic to Boss Rush. Sektori is available now for PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).

I've also started playing The Saboteur, a 6/10-ass PS360 title that in recent years has gotten a bit of a reevaluation as a hidden gem. And it was only two bucks on Steam. Being a shitty 00s pc port, it took some doing to get running properly, but some config file edits later I was driving through black & white Paris and punching Nazis. Well, actually no, the first thing that greeted me when starting a new game were a pair of tits with pasties, promptly reminding me what era this game was from. The Nazi killing came after. There's also climbing buildings Asscreed style, and blowing shit up, and car racing. Feels a sort of slightly janky hodgepodge of disparate popular trends of the time, tho haven't yet finished the prologue, so won't pass judgment on whether or not it all congeals or not.
Oh that's the wanna be arthouse game about old person taking drug and remembering her old life, right?

I can sorta see the hidden gem aspect, but the gameplay was very meh iirc

I don't think so, you play as an Irish race car driver that joins the resistance to sabotage Nazi shit in Paris.

I finished Mixtape. It's neat, but I doubt I'll give this game a second thought.

I did like the ending being very final though.

I remember a friend loving it more than the AC games.

Started Nine Sols, on story mode because I suck at these kinds of games. I still suck at it, but the game is willing to work with me on that so far. Still really early on, but this game is already a fair bit darker than I expected, and the setting feels very unique. Liking it a fair bit so far.

I think, after looking it up because I thought I knew what game you were talking about but couldn't remember the name of it myself, you are thinking of Velvet Assassin.

That brought back memories... I only played this because I saw that the devs of the original Battlefront games were behind it (sadly their last). Funny how it was "Assassin's Creed in the modern(ish) day" before people even knew they wanted something like that. I tried playing it probably more than a decade ago, but the technical issues were too much for my shitty school PC so I had to give it up. What little I played of it though was a little too jank for my liking.

I would kill for a game like this and Watch Dogs 2 smashed together. The slick gameplay of WD2 with the setting of this game. Honestly, I'm shocked that Ubisoft never got around to a French Resistance game.

If want an extra idea of just how much "of the times" that is, on the Xbox 360 and PS3 version of the game, if you remember the old "Online Pass" fiasco to try to discourage second hand game sales? The "online pass" content of The Saboteur was actually extra nudity in the game (as well as a couple of other random bits and pieces).

Where have you been these past years Geomtery Wars? You don't write, you don't call, and now I find out you changed your name. But it's okay, because I accept you.....

I need you now!

...yeah, FEAR 2 wasn't all that good, but it did have its moments.
So I just finished the school level, and yeah, I have to admit, there was one moment that was really good. It was pitch black, the whole area was covered in blood and corpses, the lights were strobing, there were ghosts everywhere, Alma was constantly disappearing and reappearing in the corner of my eye.

Really got a rise out of me.

Unfortunately, that whole bit lasted about 60 seconds, and then it went right back to shooting goons.

And look, I think this is kind of where FEAR 2 (and FEAR as a whole) fall down for me. Its trying to be a horror game, but also a shooter. These two things aren't necessarily mutually exclusive - RE4, Dead Space, etc - but there is nothing in a horror game that is less scary than a soldier with an assault rifle.

And sure, the soldiers in this game are acutally clones or whatever, and they're all being controlled by the ghost lady, and I get that, but so far it just hasn't manifest in any interesting way, either from a story perspective, or from a gameplay perspective. They're functionally exactly the same as the other faction of dudes with assault rifles. They just glow orange instead of blue.

I just think there are a million different ways that FEAR could have been scarier, and they picked precisely none of them.

Dark Souls 3: Archthrone mod

This is a mod that overhauls the whole game; it re-imagines how the game should feel, while faithfully recreating a bunch of locations from other FromSoftware games, as well as adding in some cool new boss ideas.

It's still in demo phase according to the developer(s), but I think there is enough content for you to enjoy for like 15-20 hours.

It's sort of designed like Demon's Souls, where the firelink shrine now acts as a nexus/hub that connects to various other worlds. Each world has that one huge area, and side paths that lead to 3 bosses per world.

NGL, it can take a while to get it installed and working properly. It is also somehow affecting my pc memory usage from time to time, because everything freezes even when I shut the game down.

Also, since this is a mod for a game that is already cryptic when it comes to players figuring things out, there is very little piece of information to work with. I mean yeah, there are some base mechanics that you should be familiar with if you played any of the soulsborne games, but the "re-imagining" has changed how some of the mechanics work.

For example, the base game had that one guy to exchange boss souls for weapons. Here, I didn't find any distinct NPC to do that....until 15 hours in, next to Andre the blacksmith.

Some of the boss runbacks are painful as hell, even worse than the base game. It speaks to how much of a QoL change it was in Elden Ring when we could respawn next do the boss room.

Lastly, as much as I find each world to be creatively designed, there really isn't anything to do besides kill mobs and bosses. No NPC questlines either, and very little encounters.

Overall, a very promising mod, but a lot of work needs to go in before it can be fully appreciated
