I thought for sure they would fix that in the remake, but nope, its bizarrely still the same.
You aren't alone in this. Which is funny to me because often people with complain about something like this, but at the same time complain the remake changes things too much. And it's like...people just want to complain and they never actually cared one way or the other.

Change can be good and it can be bad.

The trick is to change the bad part into good, but they do the opposite because they they focused on what was popular/memorable (Sephiroth/Aerith death) and decided that because it was popular they had to do something with that. While ignoring the part that weren't popular (because they weren't very good), because they weren't popular so who care.
