Vexing devil is, at worst, a trade for things like Sedge Scorpion or a trade for a Bolt.cidbahamut said:Vexing Devil is at worst 4 damage for one red mana. That card is awesome and you are bad at playing Red.

I wasn't around to play with Vexing Devil in standard, but as someone who used to run Jund Scavenge thanks to Volraz the Scar Stripped, getting 4 +1/+1 counters for 1 red mana is pretty nice.ForumSafari said:Vexing devil is, at worst, a trade for things like Sedge Scorpion or a trade for a Bolt.cidbahamut said:Vexing Devil is at worst 4 damage for one red mana. Also no love for the upcoming Zurgo Bellstriker? Or was this more of a list of things that have had an impact, and Zurgo hasn't struck yet?
I think the better way to think about it is that [mtg_card=Vexing Devil] is at worst never what you want it to be. It's a creature when you want a burn spell and a burn spell when you want a creature.cidbahamut said:Vexing Devil is at worst 4 damage for one red mana. I've heard it's a hillarious EDH exchange spell combo commander, but I just can't fathom why would anyone want to put that much effort into building a deck just to do that.Draconalis said:Norin is clearly the single best red one drop ever.

Slycne is exactly right, it is a pretty terrible card. No player in their right mind will let this thing stick. So I play it turn 1, my opponent looks at me funny, sets their life to 16 and my turn is over. Now my opponent starts their turn, they have 8 cards in hand vs my 5 cards in hand. That is a pretty big difference. Even though they are 4 life down it is not worth your early game momentum. On the other hand if I played something like [mtg_card=Tattermunge Maniac], [mtg_card=Kird Ape], [mtg_card=Figure of Destiny], or [mtg_card=Rakdos Cackler] I would have a creature on the board and they would have to use some kind of resource to get rid of it. Aggro decks are all about momentum and speed. [mtg_card=Vexing Devil] will only ever deal four damage no matter what the circumstance. The previously mentioned creatures can easily do that by turn 3 and more possible damage if they stick around longer. Most importantly, if your opponent wants to deal with those creatures their gonna have to use some of their removal.Slycne said:I think the better way to think about it is that [mtg_card=Vexing Devil] is at worst never what you want it to be. In other words, it's basically like almost all of the tribute cards, with a few exceptions being just okay.syaoran728 said:Slycne is exactly right, it is a pretty terrible card. Finally, this card is even worse in the late game. Dropping it when your opponent has stabilized isn't going to help you because one they won't need to take the damage to kill it and two they have something like [mtg_card=Baneslayer Angel] out and aren't threatened by it. Overall there are better creatures for early game and better burn for late game that can be used instead.

If your opponent has stabilized then you've already lost. lrn2RedDecksyaoran728 said:Finally, this card is even worse in the late game. That is true, but you're not always going to be able to kill the opponent before they stabilize. If you could then red deck wins would be more prevalent. With a few burn spells in hand you can finish off a stabilized opponent. I'm just saying that there are better creatures and burn spells that can be used in place of vexing devil.cidbahamut said:If your opponent has stabilized then you've already lost. lrn2RedDecksyaoran728 said:Finally, this card is even worse in the late game.
