Flying Mini-Robots Perform Scary Aerial Dance

A robotics lab's swarm of flying robots takes to the skies to prove its dominance over biological life forms.

Researchers at the General Robotics, Automation, Sensing and Perception (Quadrotors [https://www.grasp.upenn.edu/]," are capable of performing some particularly impressive aerial maneuvers and will no doubt rule the skies come robo-revolution.

Not only can these flying contraptions handle being thrown around and perform aerial stunts with ease, but they also hover in near-flawless sync with each other. The team of mini-quadrotors fly in perfect order as they transition from one formation to the next, and even work together to avoid obstacles. The figure-eight pattern the swarm performs at the end is just downright spooky, especially with the constant ominous buzzing.

It'll be interesting to see what the GRASP lab has planned next for its scary-but-adorably-tiny flyers. I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years we start seeing these drones reporting on traffic, helping police chase criminals or better yet, delivering my lunch straight to my desk.

Oh boy, prototype Manhacks have been made...

On a more serious note, how long before the CIA starts strapping grenades to these things and using them to remove 'insurgents' at random intervals?

That is really really REALLY awesome.
Also, robots are so gonna kill mankind.
But yeah, the way the fly in groups and do neat patterns is rather cool.

It sounds like a swarm of angry bees. If I saw a bunch of those fly toward me I'd probably s**t my pants, and run like hell while they chase me down.

Jesus fuckballs, that's so cool! Spooky as hell, and a bit eerie... But cool, nonetheless.

It won't be long. That much is garenteed.

I've seen versions of those that can connect to form larger robots. Now that is cool.

Very cool, but kinda disconcerting, I guess basically just because of sci-fi films and such portraying robots as soulless beings who want to kill you oh god they're coming run D=
