So I've just finished reading the book "1001 Movies you must see before you die and while I have a few objections (How the hell did Pink Flamingoes get in it when American History X isn't?) Those are best saved for another thread. I hear there making a book for this although I can't trust the big wigs writing those things so I ask you, the Escapist Community, to suggest the 1001 games you must play before you die.

Try to limit your post to just one game and don't make it a series. !!!Please!!! Fuck it.

Just like in the book the game you suggest doesn't have to be the best thing ever made. It may be that you must play it because there's nothing else like it.

It can also be a Flash/Indie/download only game. Anything like that.

I'm going to put Ratchet and Clank 3: Up Your Arsenal. The high point of the series, it perfected everything introduced in the previous two games. It's wildly imaginative with joyfully exciting gameplay, totally lovable characters, an engaing story and some of the best weapons in any game.

I'd put Morrowind on the list, also Baldurs Gate. Infact most classic RPGs deserve it.

Also Portal, just because its the best puzzle game ever.

I'd recommend Dead Rising. To this day it's still my favourite game of all time.

TF2. You will probably be missing out if you don't play it. For the balance and the mad amount of fun in a team FPS.

I'd recommend Psychonauts, because it should be known about. Amusing and interesting.

I throw Mother 3 into the ring!
I second this, because, first and foremost, it is Mother 3.

One day it shall be self-explanatory globally, and this comment shall be vindicated.

Kingdom Hearts. Because mashing together Disney and Final Fantasy is something you have to see for the sheer spectacle, if nothing else.

I am going to throw Manhunt in there, I think it defines survival horror like the first few resident evils do.

It will also make you think GTA isn't such a bad game and make you feel dirty all over.

Bioshock. It's emersive, thematic, well pased, not too difficult and most importantly fun.

It has, in my mind, set the standard for FPS games.

Alternatively,

The Spiderman game from PlayStation. It was quite enjoyable as far as platforming and free roam goes with decent combat and as well as a logical (ie. consistent rate of increase) difficulty curve.
