"Gangstas In Space" DLC Hits Saints Row: The Third

The second downloadable mission pack for Saints Row: The Third has been released, and it's out of this world.

(Why yes, I do feel terrible about that lede. Thanks for asking!)

This morning saw both the official announcement and debut of "Gangstas In Space," a new DLC mission pack for Saints Row: The Third that transports your character from the concrete jungle to the airless void of deep space. Sorta.

Here's the official explanation:

Hotshot director Andy Zhen has cast you as the star of his blockbuster opus, Gangstas in Space, a noble gangsta that must defend the planet against scantily-clad aliens equipped with laser beams, spaceships, and spaceships with laser beams. Along the way, you'll mentor up-and-coming actress Jenny Jaros who plays alien Princess Kwilanna, and help her navigate the perilous waters of Hollywood stardom. Because their ain't no career guidance like a gangsta's career guidance.

It's very meta, you see. Plus, you get ray guns!

Also of interest to you Saints Row fans is that clip embedded at top-right. That's the official trailer for the add-on, and as you can see it handily lives up to the hilariously over-the-top juvenilia of the original game. Propers to developer Volition Inc. for that.

As for how and where you can snag this DLC, the official announcement also covers that:

Gangstas in Space is releasing this week across all of the various systems, and you can see a breakdown for each below. Please remember that these times are constant for every DLC pack that we release, so take note of the times for your specific console / region.

- Xbox 360: Feb 21st ~4AM CST
- Steam / OnLive: Feb 21st ~Noon CST
- PSN North American: Feb 21st ~8PM CST
- PSN Europe/Asia: February 22nd ~8AM CST

Gangstas in Space is free for purchasers of the Saints Row season pass, and will be available for the suggested price of 560 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live, and $6.99 on PlayStation Network, Steam, and OnLive.

With this release (and the earlier Genkibowl VII DLC), there remains one more mission pack to be seen. If I had to guess, I'd say we'll see it toward the end of March.

Presumably it too will allow players to murder innocent bystanders with floppy psychosexual representations of their unchecked masculine aggression.

While I agree with Yahtzee that SR3 is a bit to over the top... I like this... And how fortunite, I still have enough M$P after buying Gotham City Imposters to buy this.

I guess that would be the opposite of Pigs in Space.
Having already played Saints Row 3, this dlc pack was so obviously carved off of the original release. You play through half of this at the end.
I don't mind dlc adding in new portions of a game but they really have to stop trying to sell us back parts of the game that they withheld for the express purpose of having more dlc to sell us after launch. It's so transparent now, it's really getting insulting; like they think we must be cartoonishly pants on head retarded.

EDIT-Not Really Spoiling SPOILER:
So when do we get the Johnny Gat Funeral mission? There were cutscenes in the game talking about it but we never got to play through it.

That last bit could be considered a spoiler you know.

Sorry. Yea, normally I would agree: it could be if I was actually spoiling anything. That's the annoying thing. What (to someone who hasn't played SR3 yet) might seem like a spoiler was actually a minor plot point near the beginning that was glossed over...and seems like it was chopped out to be sold as dlc later.

I've played a bit of it, and it's pretty cool. The only thing annoying me is the hesitance to give out free-roaming goodies.

In the main campaign, the general rule was that if you get given something in a level, it would be made available, at least to buy if not instantly in the weapon cache/garage/etc, and here it seems like it intends to make me play the whole thing to get to my pew-pew goodies.

Not that the DLC is a slog, not yet at least, but it's a niggling issue.

Is the director voiced by the same guy from Tales from Rail Road Times?

I have already predicted what this will be.

2 New vehicles you wont use. 2 new weapons that will be useless, a few new outfits and some homie characters no one will use.

The missions will most likely be on the rails shooters or escorts.

I'm sorry but I have little faith in DLC for this game.

I watched it. And all I could say was "Wut". I've never played SR3. Kinda assumed it was a little like GTA. Could be wrong, w/e.

They really went out for an over the top type of thing, and well I can respect that, and laugh at it. Crazy that shit up, lol.

You left off the part where there's only one hour worth of content.

I liked SR3, and despite it being way too short, I liked Genki Bowl. This one was garbage.

Yes Mr. Cavalli, you should feel terrible about that lede. It's 3 words too long.

It really was in the end. I think there were about three missions. Sure they were long ones, but that kinda just makes it worse. They overstayed their welcome, I would have much rather preferred more missions that were shorter than three missions that were a slog.

What's more, you don't get the weapons used in those missions. Ever. You got the two flying vehicles, a stupid hat, and two homies. The weapons were my favourite part of this dlc, I could really see myself running around pew-pewing people to death, but not only were they only in one mission, they never give you them, they never even make them available to buy, for gods sake.

Genki bowl was a little disappointing, but there was a decent amount of content at least. This is just short, rubbish, and refuses to give up any of the goodies you really want.

I'm personally hoping for a something a bit more feminine on the audacious side. Vagina shaped car that eats people, perhaps? Talk about over the top, as if Teeth wasn't terrifying enough.
