Molydeux Game Jam Is a Big Success

Nearly 300 games have emerged from the recent What Would Molydeux? Game Jam.

Held this past weekend, What Would Molydeux? was a game jam with a twist. Participants from around the world were given 48 hours to create games based on tweets by Peter Molydeux, a Twitter parody of famed designer Peter Molyneux. Back in March, Anna Kipnis of Double Fine Productions noticed that some of Molydeux's ideas for games were actually pretty good and before long the idea had Molyneux himself [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/116359-The-Peter-Molydeux-Game-Jam-Gets-Real], who attended the London event.

The fruits of those labors are now available for all to sample, like Octopi Everything [http://whatwouldmolydeux.com/display.php?GameID=6], an eight-person cooperative game in which each player controls a single limb of an octopus with an iPhone or Android, might be of interest.

There will almost certainly be a lot of borderline-unplayable junk in this list, but there are bound to be a few gems too. I have high hopes for 10,000 MPH Racecar [http://whatwouldmolydeux.com/display.php?GameID=278&download=true] - "Racing game where you only have 2 speeds, 0MPH and 10,000 MPH. Did you just run over a little child? Who knows? How does that make you feel?" - that somehow ended up as a text adventure. That's pure gold, kids.

The complete What Would Molydeux? Game Jam collection is up now at whatwouldmolydeux.com [http://whatwouldmolydeux.com/index.php]. I haven't tried any of them yet so if you find a winner, let us know!

Was wondering when the Escapist would finally get to this...

The London event was awesome to be at. Some really cool and original stuff came out, like Ghost Dad 2 where you control your cat children with the microphone. And I can't believe Molyneux himself came! I'm not sure he approved of the theme of my game "sick peter" though :/

I hope Molydeux's imagination never drys up.
do you spend a lot of your time just thinking up puns you can use in articles hoping that something will come up you have a pun for?

OT: neat ! I want to play some games.

The other one you should look for is The Spandex Parable mostly because the narrator has this ridiculous voice that you can listen to all day.

true to the overall theme of the jam session, most of these games have to do with overly wrought psychological issues, so watch out for mind blowing revelations

also watch out for massive bugs

Yup, but I had issues getting the one I tried to run. (There may have been others, some ideas were done by more than one team.)

His imagination is great, he just needs to turn it off when making a game. By that i mean he has the ideas and they say "right thats it, lets go make it". I get the feeling his games never work out well because he keeps having new ideas and wanting to implement them in the current game instead of saving them for a sequel.

Maybe he just release all these little games on one collection? I would buy it. :)

I'm a little annoyed with myself that I didn't head along to the Dundee one. I mean, I'm a terrible programmer who would have been a burden on all involved, but it would have been a cool experience. I'm hearing nothing but positive things from the people I've been talking to who attended.
