Ten Different Teams Worked on Kinect Star Wars

As the famous saying goes: "Too many chefs spoil the ill-conceived cash-in."

In case you can't tell from the general wailing and gnashing of teeth, [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ov0XL1Q4KE] another Star Wars-branded title has slithered from Lucas Art's gaming birth canal. Kinect Star Wars was released today, and has thus far garnered a decidedly mixed critical reception. [http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/kinect-star-wars/critic-reviews] Unfortunately, no one is quite sure who is to blame for the Han and Lando dance number, as apparently a whopping ten development teams worked on the title.

According to the LinkedIn profile of Adam N Joseph [http://www.linkedin.com/in/adamnjoseph], the game's senior producer, he was tasked with managing "1 PC and 9 external teams (200+ heads)" during the game's production.

Lucas Arts and Ghostbusters: The Video Game developer, Terminal Reality both worked on the game. The other teams involved include Kinectimals developer, Frontier Developments, Rhythm and Hues and Skywalker Sound. It's rumored that stodgy shooter developer, Spark Unlimited, of Turning Point: Fall of Liberty and Legendary fame, was involved as well.

There's been some speculation that Harmonix had some part in the game's creation, given the similarities between Dance Central and Kinect Star Wars' dancing mini-game. Speculation that Harmonix marketer, John Drake, was quick to quell via Twitter [https://twitter.com/#!/johntdrake/status/187200649342099457]:

"Pre-emptive tweet, since I'm seeing q's again: @Harmonix and @Dance_Central have nothing to do w/the dancing mini-game in Kinect Star Wars."

It's kinda funny to see the user reviews on meta critic for this. By which I mean it's funny that people expected the game to actually be good. I guess now all we have to do is wait for that Kinect Fable game to come out and the cycle of fail will be complete.

I'd be lying though If I didn't admit that I eagerly await the day when motion controls are good enough for me to use the mop handle to mow down storm troopers while cleaning the den.

As soon as I heard the word "Kinect" in the title of the game, I figured it was going to be bad. The fact that so many teams worked on it couldn't have been a good sign either. Remember how many times Duke Nukem Forever changed teams? It wasn't 10 times, and it kinda sucked. Well that and a 14 year development time.

I've said this before, and I will say it again: Kinect, good for everything but games.

I knew it was going to be bad, maybe a bit decent in it's own right... but after watching a few videos, especially the dancing ones...
I'm speechless.

Come on Lucasarts.

Just release Republic Commando 2, Battlefront 3 or a new Jedi Academy.

You'd make millions. MILLIONS I TELL YOU!

This is the sort of game that you bad parents give to their children...

When I'm a parent, my children won't even know what a Kinect game is.

If they want to play a Star Wars game, they'll play KotOR and they will bloody like it!

Quite curious to find out whether you could programme a kinect to recognise objects. A pure lightsaber based Star Wars game for the Kinect...do want.

This? I was gunna avoid it, and that was before seeing the stupid dancing mini-game.

"There's nothing in this game that convinces me that anyone making it thought it was actually a good idea"

I think the Official XBox magazing UK hit the nail on the head.

I usually avoid metacritic like the plague but at the moment there's a pleasant level of schadenfreude.

I thought the dancing minigame looked hilarious. It's just one of those things in life that's so terrible you just can't stay mad at it.

It's hardly the worst rapage that has happened to the original ip.

Watching that video was physically painful, as though the dev's were pissing on Star Wars. This is actually more painful than all the changes to the Original trilogy. *cries in a corner*

I hate how things are just expected to do reasonably well just because it's Star Wars. Where is the quality assurance? Where are the people who play this and say, "well, this actually sucks, we need to work on this more"?

There was a time when they at least tried to make a game good. Now they just put some infantile saber twirling in it and push it out the door, then they wonder why no one wants their terrible game. Then we get, "oh, the gamers are the problem, not us" mentality out of them.

That is my rant. It's all just very annoying. I can't wait till whatever company published this finally goes under from being just plain stupid.

10 different teams were subjected to the cruelest torture known to man kinds? SOMEONE CALL GENEVA, WE HAVE A WAR CRIME!

Although, watching the guys at Game Informer play this was entertaining as hell. Specially when they started playing as Rancors and eating people.

They made a Star Wars Christmas Special game for kinect?
Probably the most apt comparison I've seen. It's like a variety hour special, except this time we don't even have a semi decent Boba Fett cartoon to go with it.
