Serious Sam Seeks the Legend of the Beast - UPDATED

Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter is getting real, honest-to-goodness DLC.

I can't even begin to guess why this is happening but Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter [http://www.amazon.com/Serious-Sam-HD-Second-Encounter-Pc/dp/B003N79PR6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1336504003&sr=8-2], the 2010 remake of the 2002 shooter, is getting some 2012 DLC. Legend of the Beast will put players back into the bright red running shoes of the one true hardcore shooter hero as he pursues "the mysterious ram-god of The Great Obelisk," and no, I don't know what that means, so don't bother asking.

Legend of the Beast serves up even more of that great Serious Sam gameplay that fans love, which is to say killing the crap out of everything that moves while running backward and desperately hoping that you don't hit a wall. The DLC adds three new campaign missions to the game, plus three "brutal" Survival Mode maps and three "chaotic" Versus Mode maps, all developed for no apparent reason by the guys at Croteam.

"Just the thought of all that extra cash is making me download some content into my pants," said Devolver Digital Chief Financial Officer Fork Parker. "Profit makes me horny."

And why is Croteam just now putting out an add-on for a two-year-old, largely forgotten shooter? "Croteam is only about a dozen awesome dudes making games they love in Croatia and they have to take each project one or two at a time," a Devolver rep explained. "The Legend of the Beast DLC for Serious Sam HD has been in production since the game first launched and now that Serious Sam 3 has successfully launched Croteam was able to finish it up for launch on May 15th."

"F*ck you, that's why," Parker added.

In other good news, all Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter Versus and Survival multiplayer modes, including Capture the Flag, Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Instant Kill, Last Man Standing, My Burden, Survival and Team Survival, are being made permanently free to download and play on Serious Sam 3 [http://store.steampowered.com/agecheck/app/41010/], but hey, free is free, and The Second Encounter is pretty good stuff in its own right.

Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter: Legend of the Beast comes out on May 15 and will sell for $4.99.

Is there a reason they didn't develop this DLC for the more recent Serious Sam 3? Did it sell quite poorly or something?

As near as i can think why this is happening, the DLC is for TSE rather than BFE because putting it in BFE might induce some plotholes.

Though this is a series that takes the concept of story in the same way that God of War takes the concept of pacifism, so who really knows?

I'm glad that we're all just awkwardly ignoring the central quote in the article.

I like that his name is "Fork Parker" Who on earth calls their kid Fork?

For some reason it comforts me, it shows that there are still people in the gaming industry that are brazen enough to tell it like it is, PR be damned!

This is a group of Croatians who revived one of the most balls-out run-and-gun shooters of all time in the middle of the Gears of War era and then hired a marketing team headed by a guy who said he was doing it so he could afford to buy his wife bigger tits.

I have no idea why they do anything they do. I just play the games.

There actually is DLC coming out for SS3 sometime later, DevolverDigital mentioned it on their twitter. They always seem to screw up when conveying this sort of information to the public, what with free social networks being their only form of PR.

Chances are that's exactly the kind of guy you want promoting this. One should not introduce Serious Sam to the concept of "sanity", or -god forbid- "subtlety".

I just love the humour in this, they're trying to show just how desperately money hungry they are, then announce SS2 is going to be free! They're sort of like the anti-EA.

Wasn't that one of the movies Laura Gemser did?

indeed
remember Josiah Turtleton? XD
OT: tbh, I prefer the TSE multiplayer over the BFE multiplayer =P
if anything, because the maps are more varied [sub]and the balls-to-the-wall awesome rock version of Phantom of the Opera that plays in the cathedral map in CTF[/sub]
