Uncharted Success Beams Nolan North into Star Trek Sequel

Lost creator J.J. Abrams and his family love Nathan Drake.

Nolan North has gained fame and celebrity in the gaming industry by being one of the most prolific voice actors around. You can hear him in dozens of games a year, but his role as Uncharted's Nathan Drake has probably won him the most fans. North's portrayal of the sarcastic treasure hunter has won him a prize far greater than anything Drake's ever gotten his hands on - an appearance in the upcoming J.J. Abram's directed Star Trek sequel.

In an exclusive interview with Eurogamer, North revealed that Abrams asked him to take on a small part in the upcoming film during the production of Super 8. North says Abrams offered him the role because both Abrams and his son "are huge fans of Uncharted."

Abrams is cast in the interview as a huge fan of gaming, which isn't surprising considering the Lost creator's vaunted position in geek culture. North recalls a conversation with the director where Abrams describes gaming as misunderstood and on the cusp of getting the respect it deserves.

While Abrams is currently hard at work finishing up his Star Trek sequel in time for next year's release, gamers can hear North's voice a little sooner in 2K's upcoming Spec Ops: The Line, which drops this June.

A Star Trek sequel, now thats depressing. Hopefully that lens-flare lunatic that edited the last one won't return.
Why can't JJ Abraham stick to just creating shows. Abram shows: Lost, Fringe = awesome. Abram movies: SuperEight, CloverFeild = crap.
The first Star Trek had a plot written by a 10 year old and likely so will the sequel and I doubt a stream of douchy wise cracks will help...that is unless the sequel has nothing but Nolan Northbound as a side kick for Simon Pegg.

*sigh* knew this was going to incite major fury against him...for as much as nathan drake makes him popular, among the more hardcore, he is hated with a furious passion.

i hold no hate for the guy, so i'll wait and see how he does, still, cool opportunity.

I contest that Abrams is a geek icon. Every geek I know knows that Ambrams is good at exactly one thing. He's good at pandering to the masses, thats all.

So is he going to be a voice in the movie, or proper acting appearance? Also, good for him. I don't get the hate at all. He's a voice actor, and he has a good voice. He PLAYS douchebags alot, but that just makes him THAT good if he's able to evoke such a reaction every time. Also, very few people played Alpha Protocol, and his character bit in that was great.

By the end of next year: 'Nolan North in everything'.
I'd like to see him outdo Alec Guiness for that - Nolan North in Kind Hearts and Coronets!

Of all the games he's been in, I've only ever played Uncharted, so I'm not bored or annoyed by him (yet?).

Considering it's meant to be a small role, I wonder who'll even notice, or say to themselves, boy, that guy's voice is sure familiar. Not too many people I should think.

Being cast in a Star Trek: Bloom sequel is a high honor? This I did not know.

And hey, go Nolan North. I was wondering when next Desmond Miles would show up.

I want the man to stop being in games. It's gotten to the point where I play random games then "oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit, it's him again" and I just mute the game and listen to a podcast, I can't stand him anymore.
I couldn't stand him the first time.
