Heavy Rain Developer May Reveal Two New Games at E3

Quantic Dream's founder will head Sony's E3 press conference next Monday.

Quantic Dream has kept a pretty tight lid on its next plans following the release of its Heavy Rain [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/108554-Heavy-Rain-Cleans-Up-at-BAFTAs]. That looks to change soon, as a "trusted senior development source" told CVG recently that Quantic Dream is currently working on two projects for Sony, one of which may be developed for the Vita.

In addition, Quantic's founder, David Cage, is scheduled to lead Sony's Press Conference at E3 next week, which will feature details on a large line up of exclusive Vita and PS3 titles. It's rumored that Cage may reveal information on Quantic's next projects during the conference which, given Cage's previous praise of Quantic's relationship with Sony [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/108700-Heavy-Rain-Dev-Sticks-to-PS3], will likely be exclusive to Sony's platforms.

While the premise of these games remain a secret, Cage demoed [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/116225-Heavy-Rain-Creator-Shows-Off-New-Game-Engine-With-Short-Film] a short video detailing Quantic's newest PS3 game engine this past March. Titled Kara, the short film told the story of a female android who becomes self-aware shortly after her assembly, leading to a philosophical conflict with her creator.

I loved Heavy Rain and Kara was a beautifully rendered story that took an idea that was far from original but gave it such depth and suspense with its direction... I really can't wait to hear what Quantic Dream is going to put out.

Edit: I just rewatched Kara... MAN I wish they were doing something with that.

Yes! This is honestly the most excited I've got about anything gaming in years :D It's strange I've become jaded and used to all the big releases and I can see the many many flaws in Heavy Rain but wow do I want more

So... if I'm understanding you (and the OP news post) right, the video doesn't have anything to do with the actual games? It's just showcasing the engine or sth?

I don't know anything about what they're doing, but the video itself says that it's an independent demo that is not taken from anything in development.

I'm holding out a sliver of hope that they're lying and Kara is just the opening sequence of a brand new game where you get to play as Kara and try to live your life as an autonomous, self-aware android that cannot be discovered as self-aware for fear of termination. It can go in so many directions and there are so many opportunities to have the story twist and turn... But maybe QD will put out something even better! I loved Heavy Rain for the fact that it wasn't afraid to break the tradition of video games having some sort of real gameplay rather than decision-making, environment exploring, and quick-time events for the purpose of telling a fluid story. I sat down and played Heavy Rain in one six-hour sitting and never once did the story break the immersion.

Yeah, I just saw that, I left the video on the side to load up in high res and only just started it. And agreed, hope they make something of it, looks an interesting concept :)

I was excited just to see one Quantic Dream project, never mind two. If these were the only two games announced at E3 I'd still consider it a success. Quantic Dream make exactly the kind of games I want to see. I remember reading an interview with David Cage a while back where he said he was interested in making a war game, I hope one of these games is along those lines. It would be like an interactive Platoon.

So they're basing a game around androids and the concept of when can androids be classed as humans presumably? HR was a pretty decent phychological... Thing. Sort of. So I can guess that's the route they'll take.

I'll go and watch an LP of the thing once it's out, probably be slightly bored of it by the halfway mark. Unless they pull off Aigis levels of android = human awesomeness.

Or is this Kara thing just an example of the sparkly new engine not an example of a story they're gonna try in their next game? I like androids dammit. More of them is a good thing, I just don't particularly like Quantic XP

Regardless there should be far less annoying children in this one compared to Heavy Rain! Thank god!

Seriously? People besides me on The Escapist who also liked Heavy Rain? Wow. Awesome.

Kara looked very interesting. A shame it's not getting made into an actual game, because Quantic could make a fascinating game out of that.

I loved Heavy Rain, even when having to wait until the dead of night, or short stints during the day when no one else was home. (Made it through the first chapter with my mother-in-law watching, and as soon as "Press [X] to 'Jason'" came up, she stated in no uncertain terms that if anything happens to that boy, I was to never play this game. I got up, powered down the PS3, and switched to the DVR.)

I was floored by the Kara demo, and I hope they've gone back on their word and pursued an original story based on the concepts introduced here.

I want to be interested, since I did love the first half of Heavy Rain, but I'll be less interested if word gets around that there still exists the problem that the game has a fair chance to go completely unplayable after the first half, no matter which choices you make.

Maybe I'll completely uninstall it, delete my saves, and try again, one day, but I'm already hurt by the game. Maybe I can pick it up in a bundle.

Also, I look forward to the new "press X to 'JASON!'".

Things Quantum Dream Need To Learn From Their Past Mistakes:
1. No plot holes because that ruined Heavy Rain for me
2. No Aztecs because...no...just no
