Duende Del Internet Jailed

A Spanish troll is getting a one and a half year jail sentence for flaming.

Xavier Rezola Tellechea, aka Eneko Haritza, starts his 18 month jail sentence today, convicted of flaming on an internet forum.

Between the dates of December 2007 and Feburary 2008, he is alleged to have 'flamed' Miguel Angel Blanco, Irene Villa and Gregorio Ordóñez on the forum (which has not been identified).

Comments such as "We cleaned the ass with the foreign flag of Spain... we pissed in the tombs of the relatives of the AVT" brought him to the attention of the moderators, but then he did a very silly thing: He posted a picture of a Spanish flag in flames.

Under Section Three of the Spanish Terrorism Law, there is little worse than burning a Spanish flag; the Union Jack or the Stars & Stripes may be sacrosanct, the Spanish Flag is holy to the Spanish. He was fined 2,850 Euros and sentenced to 18 months imprisonment soon after.

Still fancy putting another "Ask a X" thread up? :)

wow...18 mnths for burning a flag...spose it was abit over the top tho...

wonder what made him do that cause to me it sounds as tho he was provoked in some way, but i wasnt aware the flag was holy and burning would count u as a terrorist...must keep that in mind from now on ;)

Wait... No... Root? Will you still come visit us sometime? Don't forget all the little men whose heads yuo stepped over!

Also, in regards to the article... Yes! Another step to cleaning up the internet, now all we need is to get laws switched around to ban normal flaming, not just of the Spanish Flag variety.

Also, you have no idea how tempting it is to post a picture of the Spanish flag in flames. I have the utmost respect for any laws other countries may have, but the urge is still there.

Meh. A little flaming balances out the trolling.

Also, the "Banned for flaming" is misleading.

Ya know, I don't really think I can add anything to make this more hilarious then it already is.

Flaming? Because the flag was on fire? Geddit?

Anyway, this certainly is odd news to wake up to. Did the guy burn a flag, take a picture and then post it, or just find one on google?

In the immortal words of the late, great George Carlin.

"Flags are symbols and I leave symbols to the simple-minded".

Flags are identifiers. A quick, easy way of saying, "This is mine". There is nothing sacred or holy about them.

Even having been there several times and being quite good at geography, I have no idea what the spanish flag looks like...

*Some google magic*

Well I'm very underwhelmed.

Not really, he was flaming as well as posting pictures.
Sorry, I meant that this: "...convicted of flaming on an internet forum..." was misleading. He was convicted of flag-burning, right?

Well I'll be, if you google 'Spanish flag burning' nothing comes up. Looks like they made their point.

Isn't it the one that has a green vertical stripe on the left side, then a center white stripe, then a red stripe on the right?

Type "burn spanish flag" on a google image search and all of two come up on the front page of results along for some reason with 4 burning american flags and 2 burning UK flags. Also for a laugh try burning some virtual flags yourself at http://burntflag.com/

How do you get a jail sentence for something you do on an internet forum? Thats pretty dumb. I can understand like a fine or something but 18 months? He just started a flame war not light a flag on fire.
Re-read the post, he posted a pic of the flag on fire and seeing as he got 18 months and convicted in a non-internet court I would guess it was a pic of him next to a burning Spanish flag.

I don't know why I post stuff like that when we all know this is the interwebs and I can easily find a video of two girls and one cup, much less some random dude lighting a flag on fire for kicks.

Both, the treasonous statements "pissing in the graves" added to his sentence.
