ESRB Outs GTA3 and Vice City for PS3

It's like 2001 all over again.

Landmark PS2 titles Grand Theft Auto III and Grand Theft Auto may be on their way to the venerable console's bigger brother, if a ESRB listings [http://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.jsp?Certificate=32040&Title=Grand%20Theft%20Auto%203&searchkeyword=] are any indication. Naturally, the ESRB has slapped both titles with its "M for Mature" rating, which might only be surprising if you A.) had never heard of Grand Theft Auto before, or B.) had never paid attention to the ratings the games were given when they first came out like, a decade ago.

It may be hard to imagine these days, in an era where every other game has an open-world aspect to go with its cover-based third-person shooting, but 2001's Grand Theft Auto III was a revolution. Instead of levels or worlds, it offered a gigantic city to explore as the player pleased, progressing at his or her leisure. It was utterly groundbreaking. Vice City hit a year later, updating the game with a goofy mid-80s Miami Vice aesthetic.

However, both GTA 3 and Vice City were merely paving the way for 2004's Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which became the PS2's best-selling game of all time.

Assuming these listings are true - and there's no reason to suspect otherwise - one can only hope that Rockstar and Sony have at least updated the gameplay from these classic titles that are just a wee bit clunky by modern standards. The camera control and aiming issues alone are enough to drive anybody nuts.

What I'm wondering is, where is San Andreas? Having GTA 3 and Vice City but no San Andreas is like watching Iron Man and Captain America but foregoing The Avengers. You're missing the best part!

Just saying, but the whole sandbox thing was there already with GTA1. The only big change in three was that it wasn't top-down anymore.

Not a chance in hell was San Andreas the best. It was good, but way too spread out. Give me 3 or Vice City any day of the week over SA.

GTA Collection in the future?

Hyping up the series for GTA 5 perhaps?

Eh, regardless, I'll admit that I'm absolutely shameless when it comes to picking up these PS3 re-releases, and if GTA is getting one then that won't be changing anytime soon.

probably HD remakes, I doubt any gameplay upgrades have been added, but who knows? Well, I guess Rockstar knows. someone should ask.

I've been waiting for this since GTA III's 10th anniversary last year, it didn't seem to make sense that they would release it for mobile phones, but not for any of the consoles which have control systems that have not changed in 10 years, and the distribution networks in place, not to mention millions of loyal fans.

Oh hell yes. :D

I never played III or Vice City, I started the series with the prequels to those games, Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories, so I'll definitely be looking forward to this.

Grand Theft Auto has always been worth every penny I spent, even the crappier ones (... Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories).

The ESRB ratings have been there ever since '94, almost 20 years ago, I perfectly remember buying Donkey Kong Country for the SNES, slapped by this strange "K-A" rating (today known as E wich was changed in '98 from K-A to E).

As for GTA, well, good for those that haven't played them yet (!), especially Vice City.
I loved that game, definitely my favorite GTA ever. San Andreas can suck it.

I tried playing Vice City on the PS2, and I couldn't get past the "storm the mansion with the helicopter" mission; I just can't do FPS controls on a console.

I bought the trilogy last year on Steam, and I think I got that mission on the first try.

The territory-control in San Andreas was too grindy for me, but other than that, I really just love the whole series. I really enjoy driving around the cities in motorcycles; that was my favorite addition in VC, and I don't really have a preference in that sense between VC and SA.

I love VC, I will certainly purchase it. I was never fussed on 3, but love all the top downs and SA too. 4 was crap IMO.

Holy shit, and I just busted out my PS2 GTAs about a week ago. VC is still my favourite.

I guess San Andreas isn't ready to be re-released yet. Or maybe Rockstar are afraid of money.

Either way, if this is true, San Andreas won't be long behind them.

It was by far the best and would make no sense not to give the same (if not better) treatment than these 2

EDIT: Although come to think of it, San Andreas needs no improvement, I can still play it with ease as if it was released yesterday, these 2 however have not aged well (or vice City at least, I haven't played GTAIII in almost 10 years anyway)

I think it may have something to do with the Hot Coffee they spilled on their pants years ago that they hoped everyone forgot about

I find no problem remembering, just don't ask those uppity Moral Fags though...

Good, but I have a PS2 version of Vice City and I'm not going to buy either game again unless there is additional content.

You keep talking up San Andreas, but we all know it has a major fault.
Hahaha, genius!

I still play San Andreas sometimes; I feel like that's where R* peaked.
Great games but even if they do improve the graphics, I don't really feel the need to re-buy them.

So are these re-releases the excuse or the reason for the lack of BC on the ps3?

It wouldn't be GTA if they didn't keep their mitten hands. For me Vice City is my favorite, I spent hours struggling with that damn Dodo.

I'm really hoping they'll be on XBLA at some point, too. Vice City was a literal game-changer for me. I used to stick with platformers and turn-based rpgs until I played it at a friends house. Those were also the games that introduced cheats like almost no other. Only Goldeneye had cheats as fun to play with as GTA. Good times... good times.
