Fable 2 Patch Still Coming

It's now well over a month since Fable 2's release, and a patch fixing some of the buggier aspects of Lionhead's epic Xbox 360 RPG is nearly complete.

Fable 2 players who've encountered all manner of bugs ranging from minor graphical issues to game-crashing glitches (ahem, Oakfield) can expect many of their complaints will be addressed in the forthcoming patch currently in the works. Lionhead Studios has yet to give a firm date for when the patch will be available, but this week it offered reassurance [http://www.edge-online.com/news/fable-ii-patch-outlined] that help is still on the way and provided some of the details for the fix.

"We haven't forgotten about the patch that was promised a while ago, the team sends word that the update is coming along nicely," said Lionhead community manager Sam Van Tilburgh on the developer's blog [http://community.lionhead.com/blogs/fable_2_development/archive/2008/12/03/3247647.aspx] "These are some of the fixed issues that come up the most on our forums or email, but by no means is it a complete one. The update is currently being tested and finalized, so for those (few) of you having trouble, we're listening to you."

Some of the fixes Lionhead announced for the upcoming patch include:

* The Ritual/Monk's Quest - Fixed the issue with the Abbott becoming unresponsive if you leave Oakfield before he finishes talking. This will fix the problem if you've already hit it, too.

* Rescuing Charlie/Rescue My Baby - After rescuing Charlie, you can now able to interact with objects.

* Guild Cave chest - Resolves any issues with previously inability to retrieve items unlocked from Limited Collector's Edition, website or Chicken Kickin' game. If you've already hit this bug you should now get your items.

* The Spire (Pt2) - No more issues with ship captain being unresponsive.

* The Hero of Skill (Pirate King) - You'll no longer get stuck during Hero of Skill quest (Bloodstone).

* T.O.B.Y./Trouble In Bloodstone - You'll no longer get stuck during T.O.B.Y. quests (Bloodstone).

* Your child - Will no longer be chosen as an assassination target.

* Furniture Shop in Albion (Bowerstone) will now always have something for sale

* Additional unspecified fixes.

The only bug in Fable 2 that I ran into was during the quest where you rescue your kid from the cave. My kid would never leave the cave with me while I was leading her out. If I tried to go back in the cave to find her, it made me restart the quest.

Fable 2 is so near to being an incredible game. Had is been released around now it would of been. The experience just felt unfinished. How can games be allowed be released like this?

Umm...that sounds pretty cool to me.
I agree. If moral choise n all that jazz is something lionhead are really serious about. A dilemma like that would be awsome. Course Lionhead arnt serious about such things beyond a candyfloss level of ethics & morals but still :-D

Wow, they're still working on it? Sounds to me like they should have just delayed the release and not release a buggy product. Seriously, the availability of patches on the internet has led to so many buggy games being released, instead of working them out prior to shipping. It's pathetic.

I've heard a lot about the bugs in the game, and a few friends have said they've experienced them, so I guess I'm the lucky 1 out of 100 who didn't run into any bugs. There was the occasional screen glitch, but other than that, I didn't have a single problem.

I'm glad they're finally saying something about this. Though most of these bugs seem game-breaking enough to have been ironed out during testing.

I just ran into on. Can't specify as it relates to a spoiler-esque quest unlocked later in the game, but suffice to say something precious and unique literally walked away from me and complteley disappeared from the world. *poof* And no, it was not supposed to happen. But it did.

I say again, Peter, do your people test these games before they ship, or what?

So they aren't fixing the glitch where Lady Grey disappears permanently when you marry her?

this would have been good about a week after releasing the game, but by now most people (myself included) have already finished, gotten tired of, and then sold the game or let it sit collecting dust
