Rumor: Sony Started PS4 Development in 2010
A former R&D director's profile hints at the earliest beginnings of the PS4.
There have been plenty of rumors over the past few months over when we'll get to see it [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/117545-Report-Sony-Rejected-Download-Only-PlayStation-4], but one question remains: just how long Sony has been working on the PS4? According to the profile of one former Sony employee, work may have begun on the PlayStation 4 as early as mid-2010.
Former SCEA research and development director Attila Vass' LinkedIn profile [http://www.linkedin.com/in/attilavass] shows that he has worked on various PlayStation platforms for years, including the graphics library and security systems for the "next generation PlayStation" (a.k.a. "the best console ever to be made") from August 2010 to April 2012. His work for other PlayStation platforms, such as the PS Vita, are listed separately on his profile, suggesting that the "next generation PlayStation" listed might have been the earliest incarnation of the PS4.
"I worked on graphics (COLLADA, PSGL) and a lot of network related technologies (advertising, telemetry, PVRs) for the Playstation2-x, PSP, Vita and Next Generation platforms," read a summary on Vass' work. "Platform security was occupying most of my time."
