Million-Dollar Game Collection Sells on eBay

A complete set of every Nintendo, Sega and NEC game ever released has sold for more than $1.2 million on eBay.

There are videogame collections, and there are videogame collections. This particular videogame collection includes full sets of titles across 22 different systems, including all games ever released on Nintendo home consoles from the Famicon to the GameCube, all games ever released on Sega systems and all games ever released on NEC systems. It's a hell of a thing , and it just sold on eBay for more than a million bucks.

I won't burden you with the complete breakdown of titles - there are more than 5000 games here, after all - but this package includes complete sets of games for the Famicom Cartridge, Famicom Disc, Virtual Boy, Super Famicom, Nintendo 64, Nintendo DD64, GameCube, Sega Master System Europe, Sega Master System Japan, Sega Mark 3, Sega Game Gear, Sega Megadrive, Sega 32X, Sega Mega CD, Sega Saturn, Sega Dreamcast, PC Engine Hucard, PC Engine Supergrafx, PC Engine CD, PC Engine Super CD, PC Engine Arcade CD, PC-FX and Pioneer Laseractive. Many of the sets are still factory sealed and even among those that have been opened, the seller wrote, "I had dozens of thousands of copies of those games in hands during the last 20 years, and i only kept, each time, the very best copies for my personal collection, so you can be certain you'd get the best condition possible."

The idea of a million dollar videogame collection selling on eBay sounds a little fishy, but the seller, "collectors_king," has a feedback score of 1792 and 99.8 percent positive feedback, which as I understand it is pretty good. Unfortunately for those of you with a million dollars in spare cash, an empty warehouse and a taste for obscure videogames, the deal for this thing was done yesterday, but you can still feast your eyes and drool at eBay [http://www.ebay.com/itm/BIGGEST-COLLECTION-EVER-22-SEGA-NINTENDO-PC-ENGINE-FULLSETS-FACTORY-SEALED-/300736846867?pt=FR_Jeux_Vid%C3%A9o&hash=item4605501c13#ht_165718wt_1163].

It can't be every one. Is California Raisins or Cheetahmen II part of the NES collection?

If he wasn't the one that bought it, that is.

Those fans of his can be quite generous.

True, though I doubt any of the would spend a million bucks on him :p

One of those things where you keep telling yourself "I need to collect some mint condition stuff to try selling at a later date."

Hmm, what will be worth a lot in a few years?

Well, I'm collection PS2 titles, so those should be worth something someday. Except Killswitch. Gosh that has to be the worst game in my collection.

That collection is worth more. I would've bought it if I had the money....

Very few things anymore. The "one-use-codes" have completelly destroyed game collecting. Even if you keep your copy of Skyrim or whatever sealed and save it, I doubt Steam would be the same in 20 years and the game would be unredeemable. There are still some games to collect on consoles, but very few. In the future, the only collecting coming out of this and the future generations are soundtracks, figurines and special editions. You can notice that already, since after the games release, the autographed Skyrim soundtrack was selling for over 700 USD on ebay. At that time, I was punching myself in the face for not buying a ton of them before and selling them for amazing profit.

There are some ridicilous collectors hiding on youtube, some of which really want that japanese stuff. People like LukeMorse1, FinnGamer or Happy Console Gamer I think all have larger collection than James Rolfe does, I could be wrong though. Then again, all of these guys I know would love to have that package. I know every Retro Collector would.

He has a copy of Nintendo World Championships. That alone could go for a ton, along with some other stuff in his collection. James' Atari Porn could sell, since a lot of them were banned. And he has Cheetahmen II, a game that was never released (and thank God for that)

Seriously, where the hell did he get a Super Famicom?

Actually, he doesn't. Just came here to say that. It belongs to the other guy in the video whose name I can't remember at the moment.

so somewhere in that collection is a mint copy of Earthbound... shit
I don't think the Super Famicom version is that rare. Let's see...
Yup, Here we go! Japanese Earthbound for the Super Famicom, 5 bucks. The article didn't say Super Nintendo, so I doubt there is a mint copy of the giant American/EU box.

I can see the headline now. "Nerdy 40+ gamer finally gets married, wife makes him sell life-long video game collection"
