Knit Your Own Sackboy, Dress Him Like Zangief

Want a real-life Sackboy? Knit your own, courtesy of U.K. magazine Street Fighter! [http://www.simplyknitting.co.uk/]

The unofficial pattern was created by Alan Dart, a "hugely popular" designer of knitted and fabric toys. (I can't actually vouch for the "hugely popular" part, but after poking around his website [http://www.alandart.co.uk/pages/home] I can say that at the very least he appears to have some serious knitting chops.) The pattern for the knitted Sackboy, which is identical to the digital version "right down to the fingers," is available now in issue 49 of Simply Knitting, and the fuzzy little guy will also be making appearances in the December editions of Official PlayStation 3 Magazine, PSM3 and GamesMaster.

"Sackboy will be tremendously popular and this is the perfect time of year to knit the little chap. Knitting and customizing him means that he will be utterly unique and a very cool accessory," said Simply Knitting Editor Debora Bradley. "We're very lucky to have him in the magazine and we hope that he'll help to increase the already sizable crossover between the great communities of gamers and knitters, online or not."

There's no doubt that dressing up Sackboy is half the fun, and in that vein there's even more good news for fans: After a week of rumors, Street Fighter [http://www.sony.com] Sackboy costumes are on the way.

Ripten [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/87762-Street-Fighter-Sackboys] and beyond.

Now, Sony has announced on the PlayStation Store [http://blog.us.playstation.com/2008/12/08/lbp-street-fighter-dlc-ps-store-121108/].

But that's not all! Sony has promised that other new costumes will make their debut on the PlayStation Store on Wednesday. Check back here [http://blog.us.playstation.com/tag/lbpdlc/] to see what else they have on tap - and get started on that knitting!

Frankly, I think the sockboys are creepy. I still wanted the Kratos one, though...

I want one. And a kratos one. And any other themed one really, but not the girl ones, they're weird.

Errrrr.... what?
I'm sorry, but this has to be the funniest thing i've read all day. Is there actually a sizeable crossover between gamers and knitters (god, i feel stupid just writing it)?

I don't know if I'd call it "sizable" but yes, I think there's a real crossover here and it's probably bigger than you think. A lot of it comes down to your definition of gamer; my mom, for instance, may not be a "gamer" the way we tend to think of them around here, but she is a big fan of casual gaming and gets a hell of a lot further into them than I do. She probably spends as much or more time playing videogames than a good number of our readers. She'll also knit your ass off. So when it comes to a semi-casual game like LBP, sure, I can see it. Bradley may have overstated things somewhat, maybe intentionally for a little bit of fun, but it's a valid point.

Also, for those who haven't noticed, this post was almost a year old. :)
