Rise of the Triad Returns
Originally released at the tail end of 1994, Rise of the Triad [http://www.amazon.com/Rise-Triad-Dark-War-pc/dp/B0009G0G8Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1343936359&sr=8-2&keywords=Rise+of+the+Triad] was a Doom-style shooter in which players squared off against an apocalyptic cult determined to blow up the world. The action went down in a bizarre, arcade-like world packed with jump pads, levitating platforms and columns of spinning blades, which was a bit of a turn-off for a lot of players who just wanted to blow stuff up, but it was a gorgeous game too, thick and rich with violence and ludicrous gibs.
And now it's back! Interceptor Entertainment, which you may recognize as the team behind the now-canned Duke Nukem 3D Reloaded [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/113347-Duke-Nukem-3D-Reloaded-Delayed], is hard at work on remaking the game, promising that it will be "bigger, better and more ludicrous than ever before." Rise of the Triad will feature both a 20-level single-player campaign and a robust multiplayer, and will be fully moddable, with achievements, special gameplay modes, collectibles and more. Die-hard retronauts will even be able to play the game with the original Rise of the Triad music and sound effects.

Like the original, the new Rise of the Triad will be "all about fast-paced action," said Interceptor CEO Frederik Schreiber. "This was simply a perfect match for us as fans of old-school shooters."
Rise of the Triad will be powered by Epic's Unreal Engine 3, meaning it will scale well and offer decent performance even on low-end PCs. No release date has been announced, but the game is currently scheduled to arrive on Steam later this year. It's very exciting news - but I sure do hope they cut back on those stupid floating platforms and whirling blades.
