Xbox Live Arcade Sales Triple Post-NXE

XBLA [http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/] sales tripling in the week since the New Xbox Experience's debut.

Xbox Live users weren't just downloading A Kingdom for Keflings [http://games.capcomdigital.com/streetfighteriihdr/], made ripples as well, registering "the second-best first week performance" ever. Movie and TV downloads also saw a hike, increasing 49% and 30%, respectively.

It must be those uber-adorable Avatars, because Xbox Live users seem to be feeling rather sociable, as well: since NXE's launch, the number of new friends added by per user increased by 33%.

"So all in all...pretty good numbers," Nelson said, humbly. "It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few weeks."

Indeed. This new wave of enthusiasm for Xbox Live is certainly worth boasting about, but the New Xbox Experience can only be "New" for so long.

I seriously think it has more to do with Netflix streams than Avatars.

Since NXE was relased I for sure have meade more use of my Netflix account on watching BBC sitcoms, and noticed my friends are also watching movies as well.

Smart move Netflix/Microsoft

I still can't connect my 360 to the internet, so I have yet to download the update.

having not downloaded the NXE (sold my wireless adapter, and generally don't feel the need to play my xbox games online these days), I can't really say I understand why the sales would have tripled. Is it just because it's easier to navigate? I don't quite get it.

I like the user interface and the ability to download the game to the hard drive. The Netflix thing is neat, but I will probably never use it. I don't quite understand why their arcade sales would triple though.

I think it's "that new car smell" as much as anything.

haha that new car smell never really motivated me to go spend more money... but that's usually due to me spending so much on the car :p

This is due to the advertising. If you turn off the Welcome Channel (as you should), the NXE starts up your console with an ad for the latest Arcade game. It doesn't take a genius to imagine that people would be prompted to buy more frequently by a mandatory ad than an optional one.

The two games that launched close to the NXE were Kingdom for Keflings (whose sales are probably 99% driven by the new Avatars) and Street Fighter HD Remix (which ran at least 4 ads in the NXE, and also had a big pent-up demand as the sequel to the #1 selling XBLA game). Microsoft is really big on Kingdom for Keflings even though the charts have Street Fighter ahead of it in sales - because everybody knew Street Fighter would be a hit.

Netflix only applies in America. Doesn't here in Australia. Do you realise how annoyed I was at that?

Stupid Yanks, not giving us Aussies that same treats.

Anyways, I'm also guessing that this increase in sales is due to more people buying their younger children Xbox 360 Arcades instead of Wiis, because of both the cheaper price and scarcity of the Wii. Microsoft has been trying to edge into Nintendo's market for some time, and this, I suppose, is a result.
