ICO, Shadow of the Colossus Producer Leaves Sony

Kenji Kaido and Sony have parted ways, but it's unclear if the ICO producer was working on The Last Guardian.

Kenji Kaido, producer of both ICO and Shadow of the Colossus, announced today that he has resigned from Sony Computer Entertainment. It's unclear if Kaido was working on the The Last Guardian, if so this will be yet another setback in the game's already troubled development.

Yoshifusa Hayama was serving as executive producer on the project before he left to join Facebook game developer, Bossa Studios, in December of last year. The game's director, Fumito Ueda, also left the company, but he's still working on the title as a contractor.

After failing to show The Last Guardian at a number of trade shows, Sony admitted that its Tokyo Studio was having "technical difficulties," and announced it was bringing in Sony Santa Monica and other western developers to assist with the oft-delayed title. Since then, we've heard very little about the game.

After leaving Taito in 1997, Kaido joined Sony, where he worked on Tomba! and served as lead designer and associate producer on Ape Escape. His last game for Sony was apparently 2005's Shadow of the Colossus.

According to GameLife's translation of Kaido's twitter announcement, he hasn't decided where he'll work next. Instead, he's going to continue his summer vacation.

Sony just lost one of their biggest and brightest talents. I feel bad for Sony...

And wherever Mister Keido goes, he's gonna make some awesome games. I think it would be funny if he joined Nintendo.

Regardless, Sony is definitely feeling pains here, if they weren't feeling them from their Vita Sales...

Fine, I will spare no one.

Except the producers of Okami, the cast of Firefly and The Cheesecake Factory

Wait, is this game a sequel to the Never Ending Story? The one trailer made it look like one.

You know shit has got real when Sony Santa Monica has been brought in to help Team ICO of all people out of 'difficulties'. Sony is pulling all the big guns out here.

It will be a very dark day in gaming if this game gets canned. I loved both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus.

I guess he just felt like it was time to Wander off.

It doesn't really surprise me that this game is taking so long. Remember the development team had to change the gender of the protagonist because they were to stupid to avoid up-skirt shots.
Careful. You don't want to pull too much agro in these dark, dark times.
