Storm Legion Set to Expand Rift Threefold

An increased level cap, new game mode, and two huge continents highlight Rift's first expansion pack.

Later this year, Rift is slated to receive its first expansion pack, arriving just short of its two-year anniversary. Launching on November 13th (dodging around Warcraft's 400-pound Panda in the room), Storm Legion plans to bring both expected upgrades and surprising new features to the world of Telara.

Along with the traditional increased level cap (to 60), Storm Legion will also bring player housing, four new classes, and for the first time, cloaks. Meanwhile, all of this will take place on two enormous new continents. How enormous, you ask? Well, enormous enough to triple Rift's total landmass.

Those new zones won't go to waste if developer Trion has anything to say about it. Storm Legion will also feature seven new dungeons, three new raids, and a new Chronicle dungeon for 1-2 players. The perhaps most interesting change that Storm Legion will bring is the "Join the Hunt" mode, which will pit players against waves of "increasingly-challenging planar bosses".

The standard edition will cost $39.99, while the exclusive-laden Infinity Edition will set players back $59.99. Alternatively, any players who sign up for an annual subscription will get Storm Legion as a free bonus.

...People still play Rift?

How the hell can Trion afford to make an expansion that triples the landmass when all the servers are wheezing and on life support?

Join the Hunt sounds nice and dandy, but you'd be hard pressed to ever get me back to playing that lacklustre game.

Not when there's so much Guild Wars 2 to be had.

But isn't it fitting that they reward the players who cling-on to it with a cloaking device?
Uhm cloaks are not cloaking devices unless they are elven cloaks and you live in middle earth...

I'm quite busy enjoying The Secret World and Guild Wars 2 comes next in my radar and then there's the new Lotro expansion and I haven't played DDO's expansion yet... so yeah, pretty busy to even consider Rift.

Pretty much this.

I do like the idea of player housing but I'm not a fan of sub fees so I'll stick with GW2.

I played rift for all of 3 months with my fiance and I must say, it wasn't what it was worth. they promised randomized rift openings and they promised that you could play with friends that were higher level and all this other stuff that Guild wars two stated as well. The problem is, is that they never gave it to us. The rifts, you could predict if you timed it right, they weren't random and all over the map, they were in one general area for certain types of rifts and then the smaller ones of the same type were within a smaller circle where only one could open. there was no real overlapping...if that makes any sense, I don't think I'm making myself too clear lol. Rift said that towns could be taken over by the other people form the rifts but, the problem was, either everyone killed them first so that they never got the chance or, when it did happen, it wasn't like a gradual change, it was as if someone threw water on a self coloring book and one picture splashed to life on the other. Guild Wars 2 is far betting in my opinion at least, and it fixed everything rift offered and even gave us more. Though, like I said, this entire thing is just my opinion lol.

I'm seriously surprised ANYONE is still playing Rift as well ;d I totally forgot it existed, I never bought it obviously, I just played the trial and it was boring as all hell. At least they are trying to keep it alive, but is it really worth it at this point? ;d Also with Guild Wars 2's competition (Guild Wars 2 is better) and NO MONTHLY FEES I just don't see how they can keep this up any further.

I'm surprised at these comments. Rift was one of the better WoW type games out there, I certainly liked it more the WoW. I played it for a solid year and if I wasn't so damn busy I would gladly jump back in with this awesome new expansion. All the content they have steadily added, new bosses, world events, these were the types of things MMO's always offer but never deliver on (I'm looking at you SWTOR!). All of that said, Guild Wars 2 is awesome with no monthly fee.

Oh look, the WoW clone is keeping it's copycat style going.

Played Rift, it's just a really polished Oblivion mod with online servers. (for serious though, they use the Oblivion Engine. It's hilarious)

I used to like Rift, but it seems they dumbed down the class selection last I checked and I didn't like that so much considering it was the best thing about rift. Kinda ruined the game for me. That said, I'll be sticking to Wow. Looking forward to a lot of things come Mists.
