Pay What You Want at the IndieGameStand

The IndieGameStand will offer "pay what you want" sales on indie games all day, every day, all the time.

The "pay-what-you-want" deals popularized by the Humble Bundle, Indie Gala and other such game collections are sweet offers indeed. Gamers get to pay whatever price they like for their fun (sometimes there's a minimum, sometimes not) and while cheapskates are inevitable, piles of money are consistently made. The only downside is that these deals come and go fairly quickly, so if the urge for a new indie game strikes during the "gone" phase, you're out of luck.

The IndieGameStand aims to change that situation by offering pay-what-you-want sales all the time. Every four days, a new indie game will be offered to gamers at whatever price they choose to pay, with ten percent of each sale going to a charity of the developer's choice. All games will be DRM-free and downloadable on demand, and those that are eligible will also come with Steam and Desura keys.

Even after a game's four-day sales window has expired, IndieGameStand will maintain information about the game, including links to the developer's website and other digital distributors who carry it on a regular basis. It will also host alpha and beta builds of games in development, provided indie studios a ready-made channel for pre-release testing.

The site is currently accepting submissions from developers interested in having their games featured on the site; more than 50 indies have already signed up. IndieGameStand goes live on September 26, but anyone who creates an account prior to launch will be given a free copy of the "amazing platformer" indiegamestand.com [http://bbg-games.com/].

Sweet! I already signed up and cant wait to see what kinds of games get put on here. Im wondering if they will be indie games up to the quality that the Humble Bundle puts up (especially with that Amnesia/Psychonauts one).

Sweet. I missed Chester the last time it was available for free. I'd never heard of it at the time, but I liked what I saw when I looked into it. A different pay what you want indie game every four days sounds cool, too.

Umm... so if you don't like missing the limited time sales, you can get games here all the time, but each only for a limited time. Grumble

This is a pretty good idea, certainly not without flaws, but a great way for the indie developers to get their ideas across to an audience expecting the level of professionalism (or lack thereof) in an indie game. I shall make an account now, and I certainly hope this takes off more than it already has.

Love to hear it. Honestly this idea puts me in mind of an indie incarnation of WOOT!

Only with a longer time frame. Now if only we can get some of the larger devs to see the value in this method and have them start doing similar things with say some of their older titles, perhaps the industry can be put back into a shape it needs to be in. Heres to hope anyway.

Definitely sounds like a great idea to empty my pockets. I've already downloaded Chester and played for a bit, it definitely doesn't feel "retro", but it's definitely an interesting little platformer with shooter elements. Strangely though, it kinda reminds me a bit of Megaman.

Seems pretty interesting - both the website and the game it comes bundled with. Already signed up, and fingers crossed as to what'll come out. Guess it's like Steam sales - most of the time it's either stuff you've never heard of or aren't interested in, but impulse buys and sales on stuff you really want keep Valve's pockets lined.

And this doesn't even have DRM unless you want it. Win/win.

If we want to, can we pay more than how much the game is 'officially' for? Because some indeo games deserve more money. I've had no problem buying Limbo on every platform, and then buying it for PC again when that epic collectors edition came out.

Shame in a way, I thought this might be a real stand at a convention, like the Escapist Expo, where you pays your money, hand over a USB stick or memory card and get your games.

One advantage to that is those cheap ****s who invariably pay a cent, or a dollar, or whatever the bare minimum is, will have to do it to someone's face, and it should reduce that kind of dick move.

People always say 'well, you can pay that much, so it's ok'.

I could come and buy your old TV from craigslist, and then as I'm leaving, call your mother a ****, wouldn't break the contract of sale, but it's an unnecessary dick move.

I must admit, I am one of the persons that I never bought a Digital game before, because I believe the physical copies of the games are superior [and I still think so].
But damn, maybe is time to start buy my first digital game after all.
Also I get a game free, even if I don't know if this game is good or not.
Subscribe right now!!!

I would call this a prediction but I think it's more like an educated guess based on previous results:

People will still pirate this horrifically. Even when offered the chance to pay but a penny the majority of games will rather get it for free. Thus proving that there is nothing noble about 'bringing down the big corporations' or 'supporting the indie stuff.'

Educated and quite reasonable guess over.

Reason? see the Kickstarter Page they have:

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/stoic/the-banner-saga?ref=live

Also they should put Cypher: A cyber text adventure to the list [after the developer fix the grammarbugs the game have XD]

Also Rival Threads : Last Class Heroes if they finish the game............I realised I want many things.......

My thoughts exactly. Looks more like a deal-a day dealie than a regular bundle thing, but since it's DRM free there's no harm in checking it out.

Given what happened to the indie bundles and everyone else who's tried this, I'm inclined to agree.

Yeah well, this is the Internet. Where "If at first you don't 100% succeed for all eternity, just declare it impossible and never try again." appears to be the ideal MO.

I just find out why I didn't get my verification key....Gmail saw the email as spam -_-.....
Thankfully I checked and everything is ok.
Does anyone had the same problem with mine? Why Gmail think it is a spam?
