How do the physics in this compare to strictly 2D affairs? I can imagine doing everything in a potentially more realistic engine would have its advantages and disadvantages.

Got it, played it, love it. It is even more fun than Armageddon for me in Online MP (mostly because there are no more guys abusing the rope-glitch anymore. That was a serious fun-killer for me.)

i have worms Armageddon with a malfunctioning MP (locally it works fine though)
and i love it, play it all the time with friends. anyhow just asking is this worth a buy for the MP experience only (it's only 15$...)
(i hate the AI in worms, too dumb playing and too accurate shooting)

A lot better from what I heard. Never really played Reloaded but I enjoy it a lot more than Armageddon.

Plus it has a good working Singleplayer with Campaign (your four Worms VS a specific set of enemy Worms - anything from two to eight - with pre-set crate weaponspawn) and Puzzle (one or two Worms, who got an infinite limit of time and attacks to take out all enemy worms with a HIGHLY limited amount of weapons and tools).
So, even on your own, you gonna enjoy this unlike Reloaded, which didn't even HAD such features. (Or done well)

Does the MP come with any kind of ranking? Worms games usually have a very high skill ceiling and they've been around for ages. So no doubt there are players out there who are just insanely good at it. And I'd rather not play with those guys, at least not until I'm just as good.

I enjoyed the first Worms and Worms 2: Armageddon local multiplayer on a friend's Xbox. I have yet to actually buy any version myself, I'll give this one a go. The visuals certainly look a lot more pleasing here.

Pre-ordered it and I got Worms Armageddon for my troubles so I actually wouldn't have cared too much if this game was crap. Luckily, it's a neat little package. I'm enjoying the presentation and the humour and it seems like a decent light-hearted strategy game, with a learning curve that's befitting of the genre. Three stars seems about right, though. Among the various problems I've endured - poor performance on my PC that really should be able to handle it smoothly, tough-as-nails AI - and just general sameyness (it's Worms! ...again!), it's far from perfect.

There are ranked and unranked matches, latter called "Player Match". So yes, there are. Haven't seen them, however, as I rather play Player Matches.

Not per se. There is no game called "Worms 3". We got 2, Armageddon, World Party (which was more like a Stand-Alone-Addon with some balance changes for Armageddon) and for some time, there was Worms 3D and Worms 4: Mayhem.
Either Armageddon or 3D are "Worms 3" (more likely Armageddon if you go by gameplay).

Matt Berry narration alone makes the game totally worth it! The guy is hilarious even if what he reads may not be funny all the time.
