Sleeping Dogs DLC Lets You Tear Up the Streets and Your Foes

A pair of paid add-ons hands you high-speed races and high-power weapons.

For those who simply can't get enough of Sleeping Dogs and its dingy, neon-lit portrayal of Hong Kong, developer Square Enix will launch the Tactical Soldier Pack [http://my.sleepingdogs.net/news/spotlight-street-racer] add-ons on October 16th. Each pack will set you back 320 MS Points on the Xbox 360 and $3.99 on both PlayStation Network and Steam.

The Street Racer Pack adds - wait for it - new street races. These include a high-speed jaunt along the elevated Victoria Peak called Kamikaze, a motorcycle endurance race called Cross Island Enduro, and a watery ride called Harbor Run. The pack will also unlock a new Sting motorbike and dragon-themed racing apparel for you to use at your leisure.

The Tactical Soldier Pack lets you fully outfit your character with the most protective armor available in the game, as well as the most destructive weapon - an assault rifle equipped with a grenade launcher. No additional story content is included, so you'll have to make your own mayhem around the city in order to drum up a sizable army of enemies to take down.

This isn't the type of DLC you're probably used to seeing for an open-world game. For example, Grand Theft Auto 4 added entire story arcs after the fact with its Lost and the Damned and Ballad of Gay Tony add-ons.

The bonuses included in this pair of Sleeping Dogs packs seem like a better bet for those who haven't yet finished the game. But regardless of how you intend to use the included unlocks, if you've been itching for a reason to return to the mean streets of Hong Kong, now's your chance.

While I'm sure this will be great for those who like the races and/or haven't finished the game, I would really prefer some new story content.

Not interested. I'm pretty much done with Sleeping Dogs. They should have made the game with more content instead of selling scraps as DLC. This type of DLC doesn't work in free roaming games. Pretty soon it won't work anywhere. People are getting tired of feeling like they didn't get the whole game after paying $60 for it.

Ouch. That one was painful. Nicely done.

When DVS gets here he'll be annoyed you stole his shtick.

As a side note: This is EXACTLY the DLC I expect from an open worlder after SR3.

How is that fair criticism for Sleeping Dogs? There's tons of content in the game and this is coming out about what, two months after its release?

OT: Sleeping Dogs is the first city-based sandbox game to hold my interest since the original Mafia (and no, I don't count Bully in that category of game). Even so, I'm not really interested in this. The driving is leaps and bounds better than its peers, as I can tolerate its existence (the sheer amount of boring driving is what kills pretty much all other games of this type for me). But I still don't want more of it. I don't even do the races that aren't tied to the main story. And I use guns minimally, so the other part isn't a draw either. I really don't know what kind of DLC I'd buy for Sleeping Dogs. What makes it great for me is the story, the fantastic melee combat, and the vibrant city that actually isn't a bore to traverse.

DLC like this causes me to scratch my head. Do people really want these meager offerings for $4 a pop? I feel like even the most die-hard completionist would scoff at something like this. I wish I knew the sales number for junk like this... content packs with, what a gun and one new outfit? That is just a waste of time and resources on the developer's part and money for the consumer.

The least they can do is tell Joe Programmer to delegate staff to offering something substantial. Grand Theft Auto IV episodes were, what, $20? $30 each. Both came with new voice acting, storyline, weapons, music, gameplay tweaks, outfits...

So when they say $4 for adding 3 new racing routes in an unaltered map, a new bike, and a decal... heh, I have to stop and ask myself: "What were they thinking?"

Besides that, Sleeping Dogs is aces! Love it. Thanks for giving United Front the chance, Square Enix!

Look at 4 dollars as a percentage of the price you paid for the full game. Then ask yourself, "Is one outfit and weapon really that significant compared to 4 sixtieths of the entire game?".

I think you'll find it is somewhat overpriced.

Agreed, and this is a constant industry wide problem. Not only are most DLCs tiny, barely adding anything to the game, they're charged for far more than they add to a game even when they are actually worthwhile content. Don't even get me started about On Disc DLC...

DLC like these 2 Sleeping Dogs ones should cost barely a dollar a pack, $10 for both of them? Screw that.

Although the racing was better than most sandbox games, it's not something I'm interested in doing any more than I have to. And I certainly don't care about weapons.

I loved Sleeping Dogs, so I hope to see some worthwhile DLC soon.

Unless they release some gameplay DLC, I'm probably done with Sleeping Dogs.
Hell, I'd have 1000 points in it if the damn thing hadn't glitched and made it impossible for me to get 100% completion...
