Is this referring to Hammer-ons/Pull-offs? Like the ones that have been in every Guitar Hero? Or to something new that I haven't heard of (in which case, I would like to know more)?

The hammer-on, pull off system is implemented far more extensively than in the past games. It also just feels tighter overall.
