Aliens: Colonial Marines Shows Off "Survivor" Mode

Let's take a couple minutes to watch some Colonial Marines get chewed up and spat out!

I'm starting to have some serious questions about this whole "state of the bad-ass art" thing. It always seems to end the same way for these guys: running around, screaming like little girlies and eventually, an ignominious wipeout at the hands of overgrown earwigs. Maybe it's just an LV-426 thing, but I'm starting to wonder if I'd have better luck with the Orkin Man.

The "Survivor" multiplayer mode in the upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines may be "all new," and yet it really isn't, is it? Use a handheld torch to seal this door, use your jumper cables to open that door, count down the meters on your beep-box, and then plenty of gunfire punctuated by occasional moments of blunt force decapitation. Not that that doesn't sound like a good time, but haven't I seen this before?

You've seen it Malygris.

You've played it, seen it again, bought the awesome DVD box set with the reflective silver inlay.

It will still be awesome!

Of course some kind of end-game beyond 'make a mistake and die horrible deaths' would be nice. Perhaps a timer for pick up, triggered by operating a radio to call for help, in an arena based area with plentiful ammunition...

Nah, it'll never work, I hope they bring back Alice from AVP2 though, that would be sweet.

I am really excited about this game, finally after all these years we get a sequel to the events on LV-426. Watching the Marines in Aliens was cool and exciting, drop ships and Starship Troopers where not such a common trope back then and the Marines where bad ass.

If the game lives up to all the snippets and gameplay vids it should be really exciting and recapture the spirit of being a Marine fighting for survival on LV-426.

Wow, the distain is rather thick with this article. So what if it's not 'new'? Nothing really is these days.

Captcha - it is enough. Too true :)

Give me some good local co-op options for my wife and kid and me, and sir, you have a fan.

Plus, it's not zombies. I have my zombie survival fixes in plenty of ways, give me some xenomorphs.

I thought this was going to be a mode where when you die, you come back as an alien (so hot!) that would be awesome.

Really interested in this game, but if there's one thing that trailer showed, it's that the graphics might not be up to scratch.

Should still be good, though.

No! Not Infestation! Never again!

Apologies, but as an avid AVP fan, let me say that the mode you're talking about has been made. It was called Infestation, and it was broken. Why? Because you simply cannot win as the last man standing against any significant number of aliens. The match ends almost immediately after a fourth of the party has been infected. Maybe you can hold out to a one third infestation rate if you're all really good, and really lucky, but you just can't win nine times out of ten.

Also, I'd love to see the xenomorph division of the Orkin company. Guys would have to be badass.

like the early alien vs predator game?
You're right, there was that exact mode in the 1999 Aliens vs Predator PC game. The game was so insanely violent and fast. Note the teeth at 00:19 seconds, where you're biting someone's head off. It's available on Steam, which is great news for me since I only have it for XP.

Also, it made me sick from crawling on the ceiling and running super fast as the Alien.

I think I shat myself. That was awesome. Esspecially the creativity as to how they are making "versions" of Xenomorphs.

I always enjoyed that "Last man standing run away from a whole bunch of shit out to kill you" moments.

I was worried this was going to be another Zombie/ Horde clone which is becoming more common in games but I am actually pleasently surprised! And I think it works well with the series as this is effectively Aliens: The game mode.

I am looking forward to this but I'm not getting my hopes too high after AvP (a game which I loved but failed to be all it could have been)

I can wait for this game. This just makes me want to play even more. I don't care if it's been done before I still want to play it.

I am a bit leery of this title...

The much hype new AvP from Rebellion and Sega promised so much and barely delivered a playable game and ruined the MP with bad matchmaking on the consoles, and slooooooooow delivery of dedicated server software on the PC (by the time it got there, the game was mostly dead).
Sega cut off the consoles nearly immediately and barely got 5 patches out on the PC before cutting that out too, BUT the map DLC was very quickly delivered.

In short I am not convinced SEGA will do right by this title, I expect a rushed product with bugs and DLC coming quicker than the bug fixes... again.
I expect poor multiplayer support with local hosting issues to mar any potential MP longevity.

I hope I am wrong.

I don't think it was done quite like this before. The first and second AvP for PC were excellent, but from what I've read there will be no Predator in this one, which is fine by me.

I hope they make you have to look down in order to view the motion tracker, if there is one. That would probably make it similar to the 'Duct Tape' mod fiasco with Doom 3, but at least having to shift your focus would be more 'realistic'.

Unlike the AVP games, Aliens:Colonial Marines has the Motion Tracker as an actual in-game tool that you have to pull out and use. While using it, you are vulnerable to attack.

Yikes that might be taking it a bit too far. I really don't want to have to wait for the character animations of putting the weapon away and then grabbing the motion tracker. I opened my big mouth. These people are DEAD, BURKE! I was hoping you could hold your weapon with one hand and the motion tracker in the other, maybe with a larger targeting reticule accounting for less accuracy because maybe they don't show up on infrared at all. Did somebody just say something? Anyway, I'll get the game anyway because DRAKE WE ARE LEAVING.
