Humble THQ Bundle Purchased Nearly 400,000 Times in One Day

The top contributor to the Humble THQ Bundle is THQ President Jason Rubin with $1,050.

A few feathers were ruffled yesterday over the fact that the latest Humble Bundle [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/120863-Humble-THQ-Bundle-Waves-Bye-Bye-to-Indie] contained not indie games, but seven titles (and five soundtracks) from struggling publisher THQ. Whether or not you have a problem with the non-indie THQ Bundle, it didn't stop hundreds of thousands of gamers from spending a few bucks (or much more) on the games; in less than 24 hours, nearly 400,000 people have contributed to the latest bundle, bringing its total to over $2,245,000 and counting.

Interestingly, the top contributor to the Humble Bundle is THQ President Jason Rubin, who spent $1,050 and donated the entire cost to charity. The average purchase is listed at $5.69 right now, but with the money and number of buyers steadily increasing, that's likely to change.

About twelve days and eight hours remain for the Humble THQ Bundle as of this writing, so you've got over a week to decide if your desire for good games at a low price (Saints Row: The Third alone would be worth it) trumps your annoyance over the lack of indie cred. And however you decide to split your money, it either goes to a publisher that could really use it or charity, so it seems like a no-brainer. Well, unless you don't have a Windows PC or Steam, in which case you won't be able to play any of these games.

THQ is just totally awesome for doing this. It puts most STEAM SALES to shame. And it's for a good cause!

I'm gonna grab them, even if my PC isn't actually powerful enough to play most of them. :p

It's surprisingly savvy given all the bad decisions THQ has made over the last few years. They get a little scratch to help keep the lights on a bit longer, and some good PR for a change. More importantly they get to promote Company of Heroes and Metro and introduce new players to the games. Unless Last Light and CoH-2 do good business, THQ is boned.

Hopefully Stick of Truth doesn't bomb, that could still sink everything regardless.

I picked this up this morning and I think the average was $5.72, I hope it goes up but there are many out there who will just pay $0.01.

That and locking a game at a certain price is brilliant as well.

Minimum its 1$ for the games. If you give 0.01$ you just get the soundtracks.

Well that's something, I'm still interested to see if the average price will go up or down.

It's good to see that despite the Humble Bundle system, its still raised a lot of money. Makes me quite happy. I chucked $10 its way; here's to games for Charity. ;D

Bought it and gave a 3/2 split to Charity and THQ. Hope it continues to go well for all parties -- I hate to see publishers go down.

This was a risky, but really good move for them. Honestly, I only bought it due to some vain hope that it would mean that Dawn of War 3 will be resurrected. Counter is near 2.5 Million USD.
Not sure what's so risky about this move.
Every humble bundle to date has been an overwhelming success, and this was practically a guaranteed success as well. They only had to swallow their pride to do it, and it has paid off.

For what it's worth, all of the games in the bundle are really quite good, Red Faction: Armageddon being a pleasant surprise. I really just considered this a "save our Company of Heroes, Metro and Dawn of War" fund.

............

I just really want a Dawn of War 3.

I bought it to help THQ, I gave my steam key to Saints Row 3 to a friend because I bought the complete set in a steam sale.

Poor THQ, I will never forget you for blowing me away on the Launch ps2 with the summoner and not long after the first red faction. These guys deserve a break. The only reason there won't be any more red factions is only because they can't afford it :( I liked those games.
