Earnings Call Claims New Battlefield 4 Info in "About 90 Days"

A new Battlefield title will be released by the end of this year.

In response to criticism surrounding the disappointing performance of Medal Of Honor: Warfighter, EA game label president Frank Gibeau announced at EA's 2012 earnings call that a new Battlefield title is coming this year. He said that they should have something ready to show off in "about 90 days". Battlefield 3 and Warfighter were released in October of 2011 and 2012 respectively, so it's a safe bet to assume we will see Battlefield 4 around the same time this year.

Warfighter's poor sales and critical panning led to the announcement that the Battlefield 4 beta, [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/121799-Electronic-Arts-Drops-Medal-of-Honor] which is scheduled to be underway by fall of this year.

During the call, EA CEO John Riccitiello also suggested that work on next-gen installments for the Battlefield and FIFA franchises was already underway. "We're also investing Gen4 console technologies and content. We've signaled that we're working on the next editions of our two biggest franchises."

A trailer [http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield3/1/end-game] showcasing the DLC's capture the flag mode was recently released.

So it's (almost) official then, after a few years of suspecting, Battlefield is about to circle the annual rush-release drain. With Medal of Honor out the way EA can now focus it's entire effort on this one series for annual christmas period sales.

Joy!

hmm. i do enjoy BF3, i have to admit it and im even a damn premium member and have so far enjoyed the new maps. AM are actually really beautiful but now with BF4, i dont really know. i told my self not to get another ?A game and it already made me happy to hear that they lost so much money.

but well, its BF, so it might actually sell really well.

Well...

Am I the only one that thinks that this is a big "Fuck You" to anyone who bought Battlefield premium?

Except, you know, all evidence still points to it being every other year.

Also, forget BF4. I want Bad Company 3.

Right there you have 2014's release, I'm calling it now.

It's been every other year whilst EA were planning to stick Medal of Honor in the gaps. Now that that's tanked EA will be moving as quickly as possible to fill the gap, most likely with the other ready established military themed shooter brand.

If it were a publisher besides EA I would agree with you, but EA chase short term income at the cost of long term financial strain every single time, so I fully expect them to push Battlefield into the 'we must match Call of Duty' slot they intended to split between it and MoH.

I'm going to guess either:

A) It's Battlefield with the futuristic trappings of Black Ops 2, or

B) It's Battlefield IN SPACE!

So... Battlefield 2142 2? Or maybe Battlefield 2143? That way, they can compete with Black Ops 2 AND Dust 514.
Man, I remember how cool BF2142 was, my edition of it came with a cool replica of the in-game futuristic dogtag that doubled as a flip-out USB drive, with my CD key on it iirc. Hold on... *begins digging around in closet*

Nah bro. They release a game one year and a map pack for the price of another game (Premium) in the next year.

Well crap, so much for a Mirror's Edge 2 any time soon, I mean, its already common knowledge in their local dev scene that they've started work on it. Now with the demise of Warfighter, I doubt they'll get to work on it.

I wonder if EA still has enough sensible people rattling around in its HQ to recognize that rush-jobbing the next Battlefield to shore up investor confidence might just lead to a second failing franchise.

Yeah, yeah, I know; the plan was always to do a Battlefield every other year, so pushing this now isn't that big of a rush. We'll see. It still doesn't feel like the move of a confident and decisive company; it feels like windmilling arms after a stumble.

Well now I'm tempted to not buy any more of the Battlefield 3 DLC after taking a break since close combat.

They've already released that game. It's called Planetside 2

No need for the flameshield that basically is what PS2 is right now. Hopefully they manage to fix the damn thing and give the game an actual point sometime soon though. Sucks to take a base only to have it make no real impact at all.

That being said I'd still be perfectly ok with an actual Battlefield in space since I missed 2142.

It is but anyone who didn't see this coming almost deserves the F you they get. They are not going to let battlefield escape being wrung out for ever penny its worth. I would have been one of those people if origin didn't deter me. I'm actually glad origin did. :)

well, battlefield 3 got out at 2011. battlefield 4 is supposed to be by the end of this year, so that makes it 2 years. that is quite acceptable in my opinion.

Well, as good as a innovative experiment Mirrors Edge was, it wasnt that great or financially sucesful. i fully support such innovation, but lets face it, it wasnt some giant thing everyone loved.
