Sherlock Returns for Crimes & Punishments

The next Sherlock adventure game will feature moral dilemmas and the Unreal Engine 3.

Everyone's favorite public domain detective is back for another installment in the long-running adventure game series, and franchise developer Frogwares is pulling out some major redesigns. Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments will introduce moral decision making and an entirely new art style designed for the Unreal Engine 3.

Unlike "moral sliders", publisher Focus Home makes it clear that these new choices will actually affect the game. "Each case offers real freedom to players, who will have to make important moral choices instead of simply enforcing justice by the book. All decisions have an influence in the game, so bear the weight of your choices!"

Meanwhile, Frogwares is ditching their old, proprietary engine for the well-worn shaders of the Unreal Engine 3, which will surely be hailed as "the engine that powered a generation" in years to come. Along with the new polygons, Sherlock is getting redesigned with a "more modern character perfectly matching the new artistic ambitions of the title." Thankfully, the screenshots seem to avoid any sort of obvious corollary to current interpretations of the character.

While no release date has been announced yet, Crimes & Punishments will be available on the PC, Xbox 360, and the PS3.

I've been curious about these sherlock games.
Havn't bought one yet, though.

This might be why

Sherlock Holmes vs Jack the Ripper is...it's just bad. So bad, you guys. It's so bad that it's one of only two games in my Xbox's history which are listed as 'completed', meaning I got all 1000 achievement points, I don't chase achievements. Draw your own conclusions.

To make matters worse the other one was Lost: Via Domus. Ugh.

That said, back in the day I had a PC adventure game called Sherlock Holmes & the Case of the Rose Tattoo, which was pretty fucking boss. Graphics look like shit these days, but still a great game.

You are either a masochist or terrible at sarcasm.

But hey, advertised with moral choices. That's never been done before.
See first, buy later.

Or it was so easy to get all the achievements that I managed it by accident within a couple of hours of playing.

"Everyone's favorite public domain detective" is how I shall forever refer to Holmes from here on out.

Keep meaning to play one of these, either the Weeping Angel Watson one or that recent one where Sherlock was accused of murder or whatever it was. Anyway this one sounds pretty cool too so provided the moral choice thing pans out well, yeah might pick this up.

That was both nightmare inducing and hilareous. Yikes.

I could go for a game like they discribe though.

I might buy this for the hilarity. Been watching Mangaminx's play through of Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened (highly amusing, seriously advise giving it a watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DunjPcf0zzk) and some of the game is just -priceless-.

Ah I see now, 't was hard to wrap my head around your first statement.
