French Fansite Leaks Shadowrun Returns Images

New in-game pictures show the colorful despair of Shadowrun Returns.

Update: According to Harebrained Schemes, these pictures are not actual screenshots, but rather "concept pieces assembled in Photoshop using real in-game assets and character models in arranged poses." Mock-ups or not, it gives an idea what the finished game might look like.

Original post: While we know that Shadowrun Returns will have a nice, glossy spread in [a href=http://harebrained-schemes.com/post/happy-new-year-of-shadowrun/]Game Informer[/a], thanks to the French fan site [a href=http://fondationdraco.free.fr/?p=857] Foundation Draco[/a], you can now sneak a peek at the screenshots that are supposed to debut in the magazine next month.

While we've seen [a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/119423-Shadowrun-Returns-Gets-Some-Style]some art assets[/a] before, this is the first time we've seen pictures that show what the game will actually look like to players. While the style is very colorful and animated, it still captures the filth and despair of a Sixth World 2075. Also, the article will talk about how the combat is inspired by XCOM and the dialog system will involve keywords. For the full info dump, you'll just have to buy a copy when it hits newstands/your mailbox.

Perhaps the most interesting reveal is the scenario editor that will ship with the game. One screenshot in particular shows a simple WYSIWYG editor that will allow anyone to make their own Shadowrun module. Not only is the Shadowrun community getting a new RPG, but they'll also be able to tell their own stories using the developer's official mod tools.

While it started last year with [a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/117003-Shadowrun-Returns-Kickstarter-Finishes-Big]a swift Kickstarter[/a] to the pants, the project [a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/120782-Shadowrun-Returns-a-Little-Later-Than-Expected]has been delayed[/a] until later this year, when it will debut on PC, Mac, Linux, iOS and Android tablets.

Combat was the thing I was worried about the most. The XCOM inspiration hit the spot. I'm sold.

These are screenshots from the most recent gameinformer. I don't think that counts as a leak.

EDIT: Just got an email from the shadowrun kickstarter. These are just concept art images.

Huh. The graphics aren't exactly amazing, but they've got a nice charm to them I think.

I'm not the best judge for Shadowrun though. Aside from my friend's failed attempt to get us all playing the PnP game and that awful shooter I have next to no knowledge about it.

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it though.

The game actually takes place in the original "wired" 2050s, of the 2nd and 3rd editions of the setting.

While I find the graphics quite nice, I don't really get a shadowrun "vibe" from them, sadly. Dunno why, though.
Also, I'm curious how they want to implement the matrix. Color me interested.

So much potential. A new Super Tuesday, return to Renraku Archology(for the first time), and so many more events. I wonder if they'll support the game more if it ends up with its own alternate future history.

The biggest potential of the game isn't really the single-player game itself but the mission editor. Harebrained Schemes' plan is to release a tool flexible enough that players can make just about any adventure they want with it. Then they want to support the editor with official art assets, tilesets, models and other extensions, as addons.

As you say, there is just so much incredible, published cannon material. It's impossible to imagine that the best of those adventure modules won't be re-created in-game.

Basically, if someone doesn't do a Renraku Arcology Shutdown campaign, my faith in humanity will be forever destroyed.

Well that's great news it will be like the fan made thief gold/thief 2 missions all over again it will extend the lifetime of the game almost indefinitely.
