Ubisoft Hints ZombiU May Rise Again

A prototype, you say?

Fans of Ubisoft's survival horror Wii U title, ZombiU [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/10055-ZombiU-Review], may have reason to celebrate. There are hints - and at this stage, hints is all it can be called - that a sequel is in the works. According to a Twitter reveal, Ubisoft is hard at work on a prototype, but Ubisoft Montpellier's Jean-Philippe Caro admits "it's too soon to tell you more."

The reveal came in response to that may or may not become games [https://twitter.com/Bignozjip/status/333120913832816640], so there's no telling whether or not this particular dream will come true.

ZombiU, for those out there who haven't played it, is set in post-apocalyptic London. You play as one of a string of ragged survivors, trying to gather the necessary ingredients for a plague vaccine. This was a launch title for the Wii U console, and was more survival horror [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/zero-punctuation/6647-ZombiU] certainly can't hurt.

It'd definitely be interesting to see a new ZombiU title. It had TONS of neat ideas, but it did feel like a second go around would really help it.

If it's called ZombiU2, does that mean we're going to fight an undead version of Bono?
Excellently played, sir.

OT: I would love to see this happen. The original was exactly my kind of thing, and the world/mechanics could be amazing with some refining and expanding. It was pretty good at showing off what the gamepad could do, as well. Permadeath and trying to scare the player was a ballsy move considering our modern console space, and Ubisoft, really.

Here's hoping.

ZombiU was the best survival-horror game to come out in ages.

Aren't they gonna port it to PS3/Vita?! Or even PS4/Vita, for that matter...
Even with the tiny install base (considering both systems combined) I think there would still be money to be made to recoup the costs of porting, and then some.

The game didn't do so well on WiiU, as most non-Nintendo games do on their systems (correct me if I'm wrong about this one) so putting it on other systems may help it get a sequel.

I rarely play survival horror, but this one really has my curiosity, with the permadeath and all.

The problem would be the name... But it is adaptable... I don't know... Zombi-Ultimate? Ultimate Zombies?!

ZombiU is one of the few standout titles on the WiiU. It wasn?t perfect but offers a unique experience and with a bit more polish in a sequel it could be truly great.

I actually hope they don?t try to port it because it wouldn?t be the same experience. Part of what made ZombiU special was the interconnectivity and reliance on the gamepad for survival, something you really need to experience first-hand to understand and appreciate. If you took that out it would just be another horror game with survival elements.

Part of the reason it didn't do well is from the poor reception a lot of reviewers who think survival horror is Resident Evil 6 gave it. I thought it was a joke, so I downloaded the demo, and holy crap this game is good. It just wasn't received well by idiot critics who metacritic likes to put on a pedestal, and that killed public opinion.

Some improvements I think could be done are more melee weapons and an expansion of the skills system. More weapons customization could also be fun.

ZombiU (As of VGChartz [http://www.vgchartz.com/game/70793/zombiu/], which I know is not the best source, but still) has sold 430,000 Copies, and is the third best selling game on the console (Behind NSMBU and Nintendo Land). Ubisoft is not dissapointed about this. [http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2013/03/ubisoft_not_disappointed_with_wii_u_install_base] It'd only make sense for them to do a sequel to the game, to see if it can sell even more, especially if they plan to get it out right before/after Nintendo releases all their quality games. I'd certainly pick it up.

As for the PS4/Vita port, while I think it could work, I just don't see it. The Vita screen is just too small in my opinion, and it wouldn't make a good controller like the WiiU tablet does.

Snip (but it's right up there)
Well, the fact that it came bundled with later editions of the console makes for an increase in sales. And, for Ubisoft being disappointed or not about the sales are more PR crap than actually fact. (Sony said that the Vita sold according to expectation, long before the price cut)

Still, those are solid sales numbers indeed (especially considering that it is an exclusive for a system with a small install base), so I stand corrected!

Even though I haven't played it, I hope it gets a sequel. It is great to see some inovative niche games enjoying success!
