Mobile Gaming Mix-Up Leads to Bus Beatdown

A man playing mobile games on a bus in China was accused of taking inappropriate photos and attacked by another passenger.

Say what you want about the convenience of driving, for our money we'll take the bus. You board and sit down and then you're free to kick back, relax and do pretty much any legal thing you feel like for the duration of your trip. For many, this means gaming. With mobile games now available countless phones and devices, it's far from an uncommon sight to step on a public transit vehicle and find a few people happily tapping away at Angry Birds.

For one man unnamed man in the Chinese city of Jilin however, his mobile gaming led to his being assaulted by two other passengers. According to bus driver, identified as one Mr. Liu, the young man in question boarded the bus playing a game on his mobile phone, found a place to stand, and then continued playing his game. After a brief time however, a commotion drew Liu's attention. "I turned around to see what was going on and then I saw a young man being roughed up by a another man and young lady standing to the side," described Liu, who stopped the bus to intervene.

The woman involved in the altercation told Liu that the victim had remained standing close to her despite seats opening up. Hearing clicking sounds coming from the victim's phone, she assumed he was taking pictures of her and the assailant stepped in to stop him. The victim of the assault claimed he had just been involved in his game and "didn't even notice that seats had opened up." He was quickly able to prove his innocence by showing Liu the game he'd been playing as well his photo-less phone.

While we could turn this into a PSA about the importance of being aware of you surroundings and what-not, you really have to question the logic of the woman for not simply moving to one of the seats she claims were opened. Obviously, if she felt threatened that's no laughing matter. That said, what sense does it make to believe someone is taking inappropriate pictures of you, only to then stay where they can do so when you have the option to move? Clearly, inciting another passenger to attack the poor guy was the better choice.

Just pictures? Doesn't Asia have issues with inappropriate gropers on buses and trains, or is that just Japan?

Well seems someone has a high opinion of themselves. I hope she got kicked off the bus at least.

In japan the phones are required now to make an audible sound when pictures are taken just because of the prevalence of inappropriate photos taken on the trains. That's why everyone shoots videos now, silent and obscene videos, and thanks the the legislation requiring sounds be made similar sounding games can get you assaulted or arrested because of police incompetence... I need to stop reading Japanese news, but it's just to crazy to give up.

In Japan the transits are to crowded for the the victims to move which is why women are targeted there, in this case the lady should had just changed seats.

I have a feeling that's mostly just Japanese porn, not even real world Japan. I'm sure it happens, but not to the extent the legends would make you think.

OT: Yeah, this is why we use our words, instead of our fists.

They why have they implemented women only train cars to prevent it?

Well I did say it's a real world problem. Thing is, the way the stories go, women are straight up raped (as in, full on intercourse) in front of everyone in a croweded train, and nobody does anything or even bothers to look up from their newspaper. If that's really happening, that's frickin' disturbing. It's weird enough that you don't get people beating up the gropers the way that Chinese guy beat up the kid who turned out to just be playing a game.

Edit: Note that I'm not saying the molestation is in anyway okay. I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around the supposed prevalence of it as anything but an exaggeration/urban legend.

Ah, well I wasn't talking about that. People probably would attack gropers, but the the over crowded nature of the public transport makes it impossible to figure out who's doing it. (Getting off topic now)

Just because you can feel threatened by something doesn't mean you should be. But hey it's not like SHE was inconvenienced in any way.
Should change her name to DMCA.
You are today's winner at the internet. That made my day :)

Seriously though, I hope charges are pressed against her and the attacker. Good intentions are always welcome, but they did just assault some random guy

unless playing a "murder simulator" in public has started qualifying under Stand Your Ground laws?

Poor guy probably had a wake up call there, to pay attention to his surroundings :)

I could imagine that he's sort of hovering over the woman who has no clue what he's doing. I'm not going to defend her, she should've just confronted him to begin with and asked him what he was doing or as others have said, just move seats. I'm just saying I understand why she might've been a bit worried.

It's sort of startling of just how little it takes to judge men and immediately dispense justice on their asses over simple suspicion. Nothing new, just the usual.
Bullshit. If she felt uncomfortable by the proximity(on a crowded public bus), she should have acted by either moving when space opened up or asking him to do the same. I haven't been to China, but if it's anything like the trains in Japan, extreme close proximity is kind of an inevitability when you use public transportation. The victim did nothing wrong(based on the facts presented, of course). Nothing to understand.

So you're basically saying the same as I am, but you can't fathom the idea that having someone hover over you with a cellphone might be uncomfortable?
Yeah but that's why we have this amazing thing called speech. A simple "Hey are you taking pictures of me?" would have shown that no, he was just playing a game, which he would have then shown if pressed.

Really, it was that simple, she is entirely to blame here, well, her and the stupidity of the guys who assaulted him on the lone accusation of that woman.

I remember, I was on a bus on my way back from Windsor Castle, I was just staring into space thinking about something ( don't even remember what now) And suddenly some crazy lady started accusing me of staring at her, luckily she didn't convince anyone to attack me, but one think I have learned is that women on buses tend to be rather insecure.

This is also why the 3ds makes a really, loud, obvious noise whenever you take a picture with it.

I'm saying that her comfort or lack thereof is irrelevant and certainly not indicative that the victim needs to learn to be aware of his surroundings. He wasn't hovering; they were on a crowded bus together. If space became available and the lady was uncomfortable with the close proximity, the onus to move is on her, not the guy that is too absorbed in his game to give a fuck about the crowded bus. There's nothing to understand here because the lady did the wrong thing every step of the way.

It'd be like understanding why someone would sue a garbage disposal manufacturer after sticking one hand down the drain and flipping the switch with the other. Sure it hurt, but there is no cause to think "well I can understand how he would feel that way; those blades are sharp." No one asked him to stick his hand in there. He did that all by himself.
