DayZ with Dinos: Welcome to The Stomping Land

Hunt dinosaurs or others players in this upcoming online survival game.

Once upon a time, Alex Fundora was an animator on Skyrim. Now, he and two others are striking out with a pocketful of ideas and a surprising amount of funding. Armed with a prototype, they tried out Kickstarter and promptly met their funding goals. Their game, [a href=http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/524168447/the-stomping-land]The Stomping Land[/a] is an ambitious title that's about hunting dinosaurs in a survivalistic online world where other players might be just as dangerous as flesh-ripping raptors.

The trick in The Stomping Land isn't so much the killing, it's the harvesting. While a small dino might go down quick, you'll have to slowly carve it up, leaving you vulnerable in the meanwhile. It's not just other players you'll have to fend off, but larger predators as well. That's where the trust and teamwork should come into play. Players will be encouraged to for tribes and build camps to store their spoils. Meanwhile, the more dinos that get hunted, the more scarce game will be (just like in Oregon Trail), so raids on competing camps become more common.

The Stomping Land is obviously a very ambitious game, and it sounds like Fundora's team doesn't lack for creativity. They've already met their paltry Kickstarter goal of $20k, and there's still time left on the clock. $15 nets donors a PC copy of the game, and $35 also gets you a softcover survival guide. The Stomping Land currently has an estimated delivery date of May 2014.

As someone who spent waaay too much time in Day Z, that looks kind of awesome.

Similar thing, but with half decent animation, a sense of progression and hopefully a non-retarded interface.

I'd prefer it without dinosaurs, but hey, good with the bad.

I wonder how it will handle player death. One of the things that made Day Z good was the tension in knowing that a single bullet could lose you all of your hard-earned gear.

I was all ready to stomp it down as another clone but this looks amazing, these guys have all the right ideas to build a game like this.

Perhaps we could also have a non-MP mode because I would much rather deal with house sized carnivores then sniveling trolls.

I'm at work right now so I can't watch the video but... isn't $20k a suspiciously low sum to achieve this? Kinda makes me wary about backing this as I've seen far smaller projects ask for a lot more on Kickstarter.

This looks like a really good concept, I hope that the final product doesn't let us down. If they offered beta testing and such with the PC copy of the game I'd donate $15 straight away.

so why does this article say stomping grounds but the video and the kickstarter page say stomping land?

Like he said this has been in the works for some time and the 20k is from him to finish it on his own, so it's basically his bills for the next year or so and if he gets more then 20 he can afford to bring in extra people for extra content.

It gets confusing when people go to KickSTARTER to end their project. But, fair enough!

The mistake with the game's name has been corrected.

I would love to play this. I may not be contributing to the funding of it, but I'll definitely be watching when it comes out. *Please let me ride a t-rex Please let me ride a t-rex Please let me ride a t-rex*

That seems really cool. Takes me back to being a kid when Jurassic Park came out and this is what we played in the woods.

I might have to pick it up.
