Xbox One Debuts This November [UPDATE]

Microsoft's next console, the Xbox One, will make its retail debut just in time for the 2013 holiday season.

Word of this release date was initially outed by Rare during a pre-show demo of Kinect Sports Rivals (according to gaming-centric talking head Geoff Keighley [https://twitter.com/geoffkeighley/status/344126302422441986]), but it has since been confirmed by Microsoft.

As for a specific release date, that's still a mystery. Microsoft claims the system will debut in November at a $499 price point, but anything else is up in the air.

Microsoft's E3 press conference is ongoing, so expect further details surrounding the console's launch to emerge just as soon as the company actually delivers them. All this waiting is the worst.

Update: Those who purchase the Xbox One on launch day will receive special "Day One Edition" controllers for the console which read "Day One 2013." Expect most of these to be snapped up by those who pre-order the system.

Update 2: Amazon is now listing the Xbox One with a release date of November 30, 2013. As mentioned above, the price is $499, but with this page now open those of you itching to purchase one of these things can put your money down on a pre-order [http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-One-Console/dp/B00CMQTVK0/ref=sr_tr_sr_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370888889&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+one] right this very minute.

$499 bucks... isn't that how much the PS3 debuted at?

And wasn't it TRASHED for having a ridiculously high price?

$499. An interesting number to say the least. Now we await Sony's response.

... sorry, somtimes history repeats itself, maybe not quite the same, different company, different price... all Sony has to do, is drop the price by at least 50 bucks and they will steal the market potentially. If its 400 bucks then Microsoft will be in for a world of hurt. No amount of exclusivity and buying the publishers to NOT show off their games for the PS4 will make a difference if people can save 100 bucks on the next generation of console.

Yeah, if Sony sells the PS4 at £400 they will OWN this generation.

I actually think this price sounds fair given the specs as far as I have seen until now.

Now when I say the price is fair it is about twice what I would want to pay for the console, but that's something else entirely.

599 actually. but it's almost as bad. If the annalists are correct it only costs companies 275 bucks to make a console. If Sony were to even sell it between 350-450 bucks they would have an upper hand in the market.

Actually, it was more like $599 but, either way, that is still a ridiculous price point for a console. Got to love how, even with all the snooping and selling of a user's information, MS still has to have an insane price.

I thought the ps3 originally released at $600. In any event, that was 6 years ago.

The real question is how much of that price is for the mandatory big brother kinect. A peripheral that did not come with the original system.

Microsoft was able to get the price so low because the NSA is covering part of the manufacture cost for each Xbox One console.

Further details? What more could they possibly announce to make the Xbone any less desirable?

I think it was $599. And yeah, we all know how well that went down.

It's even more laughable that the UK price is £430 ish, maybe Microsoft are using out-of-date exchange rates but I don't think that adds up. Just imagine how much it's going to cost in Australia. Poor bastards :(

Yes and no, the base model was that much, the 60GB was five hundred and ninety nine dollars. In the UK it was almost nine hundred (over two Dollars to a pound at the time, £425) and well... that went down well with shoppers.

Assuming Microsoft are keeping with the ONE trend this will only be five hundred bucks, or they're keeping schtum about the model that's going to be even more expensive.

I found that to be hilariously topical, cheers.

OT: I LOVE this price point, hopefully the bad consumer news about the console will keep it out of the hands of gaming enthusiasts while the price point keeps it out of the hands of everyone else. I was more than a bit saddened and annoyed at the Wii U's issues, but I want the XBone to fail with the glorious splendor of a nuclear flash.

Console developers run a loss at the beginning of the console cycle. These boxes cost more than $499 to make and market. When the cost come down is when they start making profits on each console. $275 is not even realistic(maybe for older consoles).

Well as someone else put it. $399 for the console, $100 for the Kinect.

According to Google [https://www.google.co.uk/#sclient=psy-ab&q=%24499+in+pounds&oq=%24499&gs_l=hp.1.1.0l4.12662.15510.0.16873.9.6.0.0.0.0.177.406.1j2.3.0...0.0...1c.1j2.16.psy-ab.Q2PYyNAQuv0&pbx=1&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.47534661,d.d2k&fp=3778bb200d53c77d&biw=1920&bih=943], $499 is about £320.

Ouch.

Yeah, no. I'm not buying something at that price which is such a screw-over.

How do they work?

How does $499 translate to £430?
We're talking Microsoft here. Maybe it's crappy code. Or maybe they want everyone to pay at least 400 something. I dunno. >.>
