Battlefield 3: Close Quarters DLC Now Free For All

To celebrate the fact that 1 billion collective hours of Battlefield 3 have been played, DICE is giving away the Close Quarters DLC for free on all platforms.

People have played Battlefield 3 for quite a long time. "How long?" you ask? Over 1 billion collective hours, claims DICE. To celebrate milestone, DICE is running several promotions during E3 week. First, Battlefield Premium will be 50% off on the Origin store [http://store.origin.com/promo?promoID=88022500&linkid=bf3premium]. Second, the Close Quarters DLC, previously released for $15 (or as part of Battlefield Premium), will be completely free to gamers on all three platforms. These offers will only run during E3 week, so make sure you claim them fast.

To claim your free Close Quarters DLC, simply go to your platforms in-game store (for consoles) or Close Quarters DLC [origin://redeem/], as the name implies, takes combat indoors, offering a variety of close-combat weapons and indoor maps.

But what about you tiresome, dedicated gamers who supported DICE at every turn and bought Battlefield Premium when Close Quarters came out? What about you day 1 subscribers? Don't worry, DICE is prepared to reward you handsomely... with an exclusive dog tag [http://blogscdn.battlefield.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/Tombstone.png]! Oh, and you'll also be invited to play in the Battlefield 4 beta so I guess there's that too.

Premium members will also enjoy double XP in all ranked servers during the duration of E3.

This is EA doing something right for once. Giving away stuff for free not only makes people happy, but it makes people who would have otherwise quit playing altogether actually boot up the game, which may spur them on to purchase one of its other three DLC packs.

I'm pretty sure the BF4 beta and the dog tag is for people who have Premium. The people who bought Close Quarters before E3 and Premium ever came out get nothing. And the Premium service is still 20?, even with 50% off.

Thanks! That is what I implied but it didn't really come off that clear. I've clarified it a bit in the main article

To me it just sounds like they're trying to cash in on BF3 as much as they can before BF4 rolls around.

But maybe I'm just being pessimistic...

Or maybe EA won't do anything unless they think they can scrounge extra money out of it.

I think they just want people playing BF3 so when BF4 launches there will be some transfer. to keep it on peoples minds so to speak.

If you're still playing happy playing vanilla BF3, Close Quarters offers the best deal for you as it has the new weapon unlocks and some fun little COD like maps.

RE: BF4. I saw the trailer and...I think I might have to buy it. The return of the Commander, the return of flag based assets, and so help me that collapsing building jump...shades of Titan Mode! I am excited despite my pessimism. Christ I hope they made hit detection server side and added team speak by default. DICE have proven they can make fun maps with DLC, there might even be half decent maps for vanilla BF4 this time.
