Man Of Steel Sequel Enters Pre-Production

Reviews of Man Of Steel only started hitting the 'net last night, but Warner Bros. is already pushing a sequel into production.

In Hollywood, when you have a hit on your hands, it's best to strike again while the iron is still hot. Warner Bros. must no doubt have this mantra burned into the foreheads of each of its executives as a sequel to the not-even-in-theaters-yet Man of Steel is being fast-tracked for production.

That's according to Deadline Hollywood, which claims that the second film in this latest effort to bring DC Comics' iconic Superman to the big screen should be a project to keep an eye out for. Not only should it be a bigger adventure than its predecessor, but it's also being helmed by the same team responsible for the first film. Deadline claims that director Zack Snyder and screenwriter David Goyer will return to these roles for the second film (with Goyer signing a big three-picture deal which includes the two known Man of Steel movies as well as that Justice League film Warner Bros. will eventually get around to producing). It's currently unknown if producer Christopher Nolan will reprise his gig for Man of Steel II (or whatever it's going to be called), but it seems like Warner Bros. is intent on recapturing whatever magic they believe is present in Man of Steel with its follow-up.

Of course, these are very early plans, and for all we know Man of Steel may yet tank at the box office and scuttle any ideas Warner Bros. may have had about building a new comic book franchise. Technically this film is in the very early stages of pre-production, but it's way too early for Warner Bros. to be making any concrete promises about things like the film's cast or when it might see theaters.

Expect more details to arrive soon (it just makes sense to announce these things while Man of Steel is still generating box office hype), and expect us to bring them to you.

Considering that the Christopher Reeve Superman 1 and 2 were filmed at the same time, this is not unprecedented in the least. Not only that, but they were the good two Reeve movies. If this one rocks, I will be glad for the early start.

Thats a little presumptuous considering what a "success" the last movie was. But eh, if they want, just makes it funnier if the big blue boyscout bombs.

I just hope the film warrants a sequel. I'm really really excited for this. So far everything I have seen makes it look awesome. The reviews so far are a bit of a mixed bag. They range from saying it's the best Superman since the 1978 Superman film to calling a soulless gray boring special FX piece. So, suffice it to say, who knows what to expect. I know that no matter what I'm going to see it. I am anxious to see exactly how they distanced it from the original films, which has to happen in my opinion. I like the more mature story about integration and fear of integration by someone who can't get any further outside the human club than an Alien from another world with god like strength and invulnerability. It's an interesting juxtaposition really, and I for one can't wait to see how it plays out. Part of me think that some critics have been rough because they don't like superheroes. You can even read comment in reviews that betray the feeling that some people are going to hate it just because.

it wont bomb. even if its a completely awful movie, people will still go to see it in hordes jsut to see what its all about. the movie will sell on the title alone.

This Sequel will be called 'Man of Flesh' with him vs Lex Luthor (same as Batman vs Joker, the iconic villain)

and the end of the trilogy (because there will be one)will be 'Man of Krypton', him vs Doomsday (The one that 'defeats' him)

I saw the movie on Monday and my first reaction was "this is definitely getting the sequel Superman Returns failed to spawn".
Luthor is obviously going to be in it because:

We see a couple of "Lexcorp" ads in the movie, obviously teasing at Luthor playing Joker to Supes in later movies.
There's even a bit of an ironic moment when Zod tries to hit Supes with a fuel truck labeled "Lexcorp" on the side.

Anyway, the movie's pretty good. It's not AMAZING but I can see future, better movies getting built on top of this.

Fair enough. Hasn't it made a profit already, simply on advertising deals? I know it's at least made a ridiculous amount.
