Updated: Armikrog Hits Kickstarter Goal With Hours to Spare
The claymation adventure game gets funded at the last minute.
Back in 1996, Earthworm Jim creator Doug TenNapel made The Neverhood, an adventure game crafted entirely out of claymation footage. It didn't find much success and faded into that fondly-remembered-yet-under-appreciated area of gaming nostalgia. Now, TenNapel and his Pencil Test Studios are back with Armikrog, a spiritual successor to that previous game. While the Kickstarter campaign got off to a slow start, it finally picked up steam and met its $900,000 goal, only hours away from the deadline.
Armikrog is a point-and-click adventure game that follows the spaceman Tommynaut and his blind, talking dog Beak-Beak, as they are stranded on an alien fortress. It will feature the voice talents of notable people like Michael J. Nelson, Veronica Belmont, and Rob Paulen. Developed in the Unity engine, it will run on PC, Mac, and Linux systems. As of the time of writing, it remains short of its $950,000 [a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/125309-Armikrog-Wii-U-Version-is-on-The-Table]Wii U stretch goal[/a], but Pencil Test is "fast-tracked" as an officially licensed Wii U developer.
Currently, it's set to launch DRM-Free on GoG.com, The Humble Store, and others, with a [a href=http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=151640574]Steam Greenlight in the works.[/a]
Update: It surpassed the Wii U stretch goal, finishing with $974,578.
