Minecraft Version 1.6 Out Now, Adds Horses

The update requires you to download a new version of the Minecraft launcher from the official site [http://mcupdate.tumblr.com/post/54337149404/minecraft-1-6-1].

Minecraft version 1.6, which was previously available for official Minecraft site [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/123387-Saddle-Up-in-the-Latest-Minecraft-Update] and download a new version of the launcher.

The new launcher comes with a lot of benefits, including the ability to create multiple "profiles" that can launch different versions of the games, removing the need to have several Minecraft executables lying around to ensure you can still play on out-of-date servers.

Texture packs have been replaced with resource packs, which can also contain sounds and other tidbits (such as fonts). Unfortunately, it means all your old texture packs won't be compatible, unless you convert them with this conversion tool [http://s3.amazonaws.com/Minecraft.Download/utilities/TextureEnder.jar].

The full changelog is as follows:

Added Horses
Added Donkeys, Mules
Added Horse Armor
Added Leads
Added Carpets
Added Hardened Clay, Stained Clay
Added Block of Coal
Added Name Tags (item)
Added Hay Bales
Texture packs are now "resource packs" that also can hold sound etc
Food meter is now drained when healed by full food meter
You can't destroy blocks with a sword in creative mode
Removed Herobrine

There's no word on when these features will come to the Xbox 360 version of the game.

That looks pretty awesome! I can't wait to try! I'm not that interested in horses, but they're still pretty cool and the carpets look really awesome!

I wonder if they got a new terrain generating algorithm? That's always somewhat because it makes my maps somewhat disjointed.

In before the inevitable MLP skins.

I can has Rarity plox?

I haven't played Minecraft for over a year now. Seems like this is as good a time as any to pick it up again.

FECKING HEROBRINE

With that out of the way, cool. I want to see a group of dudes on horses fleeing a group of spider jockeys.

I'll have to wait until I'm back home...

Anyway, I was waiting for this animal for quite a while. Freaking finally!!
However, I heard the new zombie ability to reproduce himself when he isn't being watched and the increased sight range is making the night nearly unplayable regardless of the difficult setting.
I'll have to check that.

The biggest part for me about the new launcher (that no one has mentioned) is that it now intuitively supports giving the Java machine more RAM for the game to work with. No googling for RAM hacks anymore, just go to your profile options and replace 1G with however many Gs.

It's a pretty big deal if you run the game on max draw distance.

Yea, those bloody MLP skins are gonna come eventually whenever there are horses added to a game.

Sweeeeeet. That's some pretty convenient additions right there. On a different note OH GOD THE NEW LAUNCHER LOOKS HORRIBLE. Hopefully it'll be skinned soon.

Quick question, is this going to affect already installed mods? I have the Finite Water mod installed (nothing else except that) and I don't really want to have to go without it until the mod is updated for version 1.6, but I would like to actually update Minecraft when I can...

(it is a pretty awesome mod, to be fair. I have a fascination in Minecraft with hydraulic engineering...)

Yup. Every update deletes your old minecraft.jar and replaces it with the new one. You'll have to reinstall the mod.

That's some pristine trolling right there.
How many patches have they put that in now? Like 5?

OT: Eh, Minecraft wore out its welcome with me a long time ago. Cool for people still playing it though.

Minecraft is still updating? Oh crap. I haven't played it in forever. It's going to want to come back and consume all my time if I let it. Nooooooooo I have things to dooooooo *falls into the pit of block-based oblivion*
