"Get a real guitar!" ..Give it a rest. As if this hasn't been thought by every single person. It just shows that you're an ignorant f***. Hah, same goes for me and everyone else who flames the flamers. But at least we're the "good guys".

But yeah.. Pretty neat.. Not terribly newsworthy imo. But neat o.e

I don't understand all the flames on this kid. It is a pretty cool accomplishment for the kid. He is humble about it. Also yes it can be sort of important it all depends on what your passions are. I don't remember people flaming this much when the stories about the guy trying to beat the donkey kong record showed up on the escapist. That is sort of important to him and guitar hero is sort of important to this kid.

I don't remember him ever saying anything about a real guitar so I don't see why that has anything to do with this.

It would be cool to hold a world record even if it is for just a little while. I mean common there are people that hold records for longest fingernails/hair/etc etc. and all they had to do was wait at least this kid had to practice and get better.

Good for him. Maybe I'll have to step up and take the title. It's better than doing algebra homework.

He should get a guitar. It's what you do after you play Guitar Hero.
Not after you simply play, but after you master guitar hero. He seems like he would easily have the ability to play a real guitar though. He definitely should, because after you've set the world record for it, you should just move on. there is nothing left for it to really give to you.

How enjoyable can a game be when you know you are going to easily beat it and be provided with little to no direct challenge?

Yay he can tap a button when it says so on screen! It's almost as lame as a championship in air guitar...but it is a close match between the two on the most meaninless pursuits available.
I only play guitar hero world tour when its with my mates, its not really an achievement to play a game hour after hour after hour.

Yeah. If Guitar Hero is considered important, Paris Hilton is a fucking genius.
AH HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

OT: This kid just needs to get a real guitar. If you can set world records with GH you should just learn the real thing.

That kid is awesome. The fact that he is an honor student and can still set a world record in a video game is amazing. Wish I had such focusing skills.

Why is everyone in this thread flaming this kid? He is 12 and an honor student. What's wrong with doing what he likes during his free time?

A slow day, eh?

This isn't really the kind of news I've come to expect from The Escapist...
Because, when we had an article on a guy playing all the Rockband instruments at once, we had one about a kid who solved two Rubbix cubes WHILE playing Guitar Hero, you don't come to expect this?
Not really... No.

Fuck you kid! You beat a world record and that is really worthless as it helps no one and because of that, you suck, and I can say this because obviusly playing video games is alot more productive than beating a world record ON a video game!!
Also you smell!

If you couldn't tell, that was sarcasm.

Note from the original article: the song is Mercyful Fate by Metallica. It appears to be from the game Guitar Hero Metallica. No mention of what platform.

This is yet another reason why I don't take Guinness Records seriously. Merely saying 1 million points on Guitar Hero is meaningless, since each song is scored differently, as are different difficulty levels and even different consoles.

On the other hand, Twin Galaxies is a Guinness Records-recognized source for video game records. There are different categories for each game, platform, song, and difficulty level. They have been tracking video game records for years and are quite thorough (if not sometimes biased) about verifying them.

Note: I'm not affiliated with Twin Galaxies, but I do compete through them (and have a few records to show for it).

There's nothing wrong with it, I can think of a lot of far worse ways to waste time than mastering Guitar Hero. Ultimately it's still just a complete waste of time - setting a world record at Guitar Hero is an utterly useless accomplishment. So are most of the 'world records' for that matter, as the bulk of them are stupid crap that nobody really cares about.

Being pointless doesn't mean it's bad, there are lots of pointless wastes of time that are still rather cool or at least amusing (and watching this kid might at least qualify as somewhat impressive), but the reason so many people tend to jump all over examples like this is the tendency of Guitar Hero fans to mistakenly believe your wicked score at [Song X] is important - it isn't, Guitar Hero is a fun little party game and being 'good' at it is no more praiseworthy than being really good at bloody Pictionary.

Well, that and the bit where they're pressing buttons on a plastic toy, which is kind of silly even before you start bragging about how good you are at it, heh.

... I'm sorry, I missed something. Is there anyone over the age of 13 that gives the slightest bit of a damn? Nope? I fail to see the point then.
Oh come on. It's just neat! Not everything that flies off teh news desk has to be some big, gripping, hard hitting gaming news article. Sometimes, it's just neat to hear about some kids who, at 12 years old, kicks some serious, world-record-setting ass at a game.

Lighten up people. Geez.
I agree, but it's the fact he said:
"I never expected to break a world record on something that is kind of important, Maybe something kinda small but not this big."
which irked me. It is a fairly impressive feat, but to claim it as important is a little excessive, even for a 12 year old.

"You just achieved One Million points on Guitar Hero: YOU! ARE! FAGS!"
I'm pretty sure that has been posted numerous times already.

I also think I should kill you and 75% of the people in this thread.
Go ahead, the only reason i said it was to be apart of the other 75% of the people who posted it, to be honest =P

No it's not. When you reach the top of Guitar Hero you go and buy some Heroin Hero.
So true.

Anyways, that's cool I guess. I'm also quite impressed that he's not full of himself for getting that high of a score and breaking a world record. Go him!
