Payday 2: Skills For The Modern Criminal Video

Would anyone like a medical bag? No? How about some ammo, then?

Your modern criminal in Payday 2 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/124471-Payday-2-Boasts-A-Pleasantly-Mellow-Trailer] isn't a brain-dead thug with a gun. He has abilities the like of which few cops ever want to come up against, like the ability to just spawn a gun turret if he feels like it, or put down mines. How about some ammo? Always handy on those lazy days when there's nothing better to do than shoot people. Or perhaps you'd rather ghost your way around the map, stopping alarms and opening up even the toughest doors. The world is your oyster; all you have to do is crack it open.

Payday 2, if you don't already know, is Overkill Software's co-op heist game. You take your band - the mastermind, technician, enforcer and ghost - off to the places where dollar bills live and breed, at the behest of the mysterious Crimenet. Don't expect an easy life, as the game will throw in Willie Sutton [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/126050-Payday-2-Will-Randomly-Complicate-Your-Heist] observed, "you can't rob a bank on charm and personality;" take along a big enough gun, and maybe you won't have to worry too much about random complications.

This one's due August 2013 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

Playing the beta - the current skillsystem is pretty bad, to be honest. There was a different one before this beta was released, which was better (a pretty simple one - you spend your skillpoints on skills. That's it. If you want to respec, you pay a hefty amount of cash, depending on the amount of spend points). Now if we look at the current one (you pay points AND a hefty sum of cash on every skill - Tier 4 is already requesting 248.000 bucks for the basic version - and respec gives you 50% of the spend cash back as well as all points)... that is NOT an improvement.

Still, the skills themselves and the fact that you have to either dedicated yourself somewhat to one tree (you can go a bit 'off-class' and use two trees, maybe pick one or two skills from a third) or spread yourself pretty evenly without having any real strengh (which is pretty sub-obtimal)

Its already been confirmed that later on heists pay out a lot more. The highest payout in beta has been around £900,000 spending money. It costs 7 million for a full respec once you hit the top level.

Also, most trees have skills that aren't worth taking, so everyone is going to spread into two. It seems designed that way, as you don't even have enough skill points to completely fill one tree.
