WoW Player Hits Level 60 Without Picking a Faction

When asked whether he wanted to pick Horde or Alliance for his Pandaren Shaman, World of Warcraft player Doubleagent said "no".

If you've played as a Pandaren in Mists of Pandaria, World of Warcraft's latest expansion pack, you'll know that the Pandaren initially start off neutral, then have to pick either Horde or Alliance when they get to level 10. But World of Warcraft player Doubleagent decided that he was perfectly happy staying neutral, and in defiance of both the Horde and Alliance, has leveled his Pandaren Shaman to level 60 without picking a side.

"Dungeons are locked since I've not completed this quest to pick a standardized faction... same with battlegrounds. PvP pet battles cannot be queued for since I'm neutral, nor are there any battle pets at all to battle in the Wild. No Archaeology dig sites either."

Since 2012, it's been a slow, but steady journey, as he's had to go from 1 to 60 without leaving the Wandering Isle - the Pandaren starting zone. Anyone familiar with WoW's mechanics might be scratching their heads, wondering how someone can continue to level once the quests dry up and the mobs turn gray. The answer is with Herbalism and Inscription.

Herbalism grants a small amount of experience every time a herb is gathered. Doubleagent relies on the rested experience boost as his only reprive, as he is unable to send +XP heirloom gear to his neutral character.

I think it's very interesting to see people "break" games like this. Glitches, bugs, and people doing stuff that just wasn't intended by the developer are things that are unique to videogames, and show how gamers can try and think outside the box. Doubleagent would get along well with the folks over at r/firstworldanarchists [http://www.reddit.com/r/firstworldanarchists].

If only games would let more people play like that. I'm so sick of being forced to choose a faction. I want to be a free agent.

I would like to say this is outstanding, but since it says "since 2012" I'll guess that it's a matter of pure patience, and not actually wanting to do anything else with the character.

So wait a tick...he didn't pick one at 10, so am I correct in guessing he couldn't que for BG's or dungeon instances ? because last I checked those opened up at around level 12 or so and didn't require you to actually leave whatever area you were in.
Or tou could've read the article where it says right there ""No dungeons, no PvP".

I admire the dude, personally. After 8+ years, I've grown very bored with WoW and have rolled a pacifist toon on my server and am grinding it out to 90. This is actually my 3rd attempt at doing it, as twice now, I've had people kill mobs that were attacking me-when the mob died, because I had the threat the whole time, the kills were attributed to me and, thus, I had a Creature Kill added to my stats.

I'm leveling just picking flowers, digging up rocks, arch and exploring, but he has taken "alternative leveling" to more of an extreme than I have, for sure.

Reminds me of the people in the original Guild Wars who levelled their way to max level in the tutorial zone simply because it was too pretty to leave.

And trust me, that's no easy feat. At one point they stopped getting XP from creatures, so they had to "Death Level". They would DIE to those low-level creatures until the CREATURES levelled up, then killed THEM for XP. Over. And over. And over again.

It got to the point that ANet put in an achievement if you managed to accomplish this task. Then even later they added daily quests that granted XP regardless of level to make it easier, but that was years after dozens of people had done it the hard way.

Ahhhh, another classic example of "Just because I can" gaming approach. I think it'd be pretty sweet if he makes it all the way up to the level cap and Blizzard gives him some kind of prize just because he did what he did. A unique mount, some gear, I dunno...but that'd be nifty of'em.

I doubt that'll happen, though, since as we all know:

Awesome. New race, new class, get to level 10 and do the same quests all over again. Was a third faction too difficult for them to do?

hehe, the whole Alliance vs Horde war is pointless by this point anyway, they've worked together against apocalyptic forces so many times you'd think the orc vanguard and ironforge mountaineers would fistbump by now.

choosing the path of peace should be an actual playstyle.

That was pretty much the first thing I thought of when I read the article.

well that's one way to spend your time. Though I'd think it'd be incredibly boring, maybe he was watching movies at the same time or something.
