Wonderful 101 Demo Comes Available [UPDATE]

Great news (assuming you live in Japan or Europe): A demo for Platinum Games' The Wonderful 101 is now available on the Wii U eShop.

The Wonderful 101 is the latest effort from Bayonetta developer Platinum Games. It's described as a mass-action superhero adventure, which translates roughly to "players control a squad of superheroes and use their heroic powers to punch the stuffing out of gigantic creatures." If you're familiar with Platinum's games, you already know how bombastic this thing looks in action, so at this point what more do we have to tell you?

Not much, which is why Platinum has decided to drop the coy act, and instead just let us experience the game for ourselves. Unfortunately, in a break from tradition, the demo released this morning is currently only available to European and Japanese gamers. Platinum claims that a US demo is en route, but offers no solid release date for the Americanized demo.

As with almost all demos, this test of the game is available totally gratis. If you live in Japan or Europe (or have access to their eShop offerings), you can power up your Wii U and pull down the demo right this very minute. Once you've done so, if you can drag yourself away from the game for a few moments, leave your impressions in the comments section below. Those of us in the US are suddenly intensely jealous of your geographic location, so throw us a bone, won't you?

Update: The demo for The Wonderful 101 is now also available in North America.

I hope the demo comes to the U.S. soon, I'm pretty much sold on this game anyway, but I would like to try it a bit too. Then again, I am not a big demo person, so maybe it is no huge loss for me personally.

Don't own a Wii U yet, but this is one of the games I'm interested in when I finally break down and buy one. Anyone wanna give a detailed playthrough of whats good and what's bad?

Well I got the demo, and I just gotta say this game is AWESOME! I'm not normally a fan of action games, but oh man was the demo a blast to play. It's a bit hard to get the hang of at first, so my first time through was pretty rough. However trying it a second time things just clicked for me and the fun factor skyrocketed. Switching between the various Unite Morph forms(fist, sword, and gun are available in the demo) is fairly easy, even if I can't draw a good circle some of the time, and there's some interesting strategy in choosing which weapon to use and whether to dodge or use your Jello block. Ultimately this is a must-have game for Wii U owners, and I wouldn't be surprised if this game became a system seller. It's just that well put together.

To anyone interested, it's also worth checking out the W101 Direct and extended trailer Nintendo put up on Youtube. Kamiya really went into some of the gameplay mechanics, and just how balls-to-the-walls crazy this is going to be.

So so sooooooooo gooooooooood!!!! I need this game inside me.
This trailer made me so happy. It's colourful, it's crazy, it looks like pure fun. It's the perfect fit for a Nintendo console. Christ I want that D:

Played the demo, had no damn clue what was going on and I had a real blast! I think that, when I play it again over the weekend I'll understand it more.

I cannot decide if it is endearing or stupid. It's one of the two. Considering the developer it's probably really good, but the characters...as I said, can't tell.

That was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I think I got a bit teary-eyed. Thank you for posting this. Thank you.
