Thomas Was Alone Creator Turns Up The Volume

Who is [REDACTED]? Why does he steal?

Remember Thomas Was Alone [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/123481-Thomas-Was-Alone-Jumps-to-PS3-and-Vita], the rectangle-obsessed platformer from independent developer Mike Bithell? Well, that game's success allowed Bithell to quit his day job, and one of the results of his newfound game development career is a stealth game about sound called Volume. He, David Housden - the fella who created Thomas' soundtrack - and a bunch of other folks have got together at Mike Bithell Games to make magic happen. And stealing. Lots of stealing.

"[REDACTED] Does not kill. That would be far too easy," says the game's initial release. "Instead, he commits his crimes through stealth. He sneaks, he distracts, he avoids. He is never seen, and seldom heard." Except when he wants to be, as he sometimes uses sound as a lure, helping him slip past his enemies and into the loot rooms. For those of you who enjoy a little building of your own, every area of the game can be moulded to suit your least whim, added to, or even expanded. "This is a game which will evolve, warp and grow as players make their mark on [REDACTED]'s legend," says the release.

No, we don't know when this launches; that arriving unexpectedly 2014 is as close as you'll get to a date. More will follow at GameCity in October.

Isn't the point of a stealth game NOT to be heard?
Thief. Noise arrows. That's all I'm going to say =)

OT: I loved Thomas Was Alone so I'm interested in what Bithell comes up with next. Will try to keep an eye on this.

I thought Thomas Was Alone was just okay, definitely good and polished for a first time developer, but I honestly didn't get the whole emotional resonance that everyone was crying their eyeballs out for. On that same vain, this just looks okay, it reminds me a bit (read: a lot) of the VR missions from MGS and MGS2, which, if it controls the same way, could pose a problem

Well I loved Thomas Was Alone so I'm definitely interested in anything Mike Bithell does, especially if it bears as much resemblance to the VR Missions from MGS as it does now.

I'm not sure if it is just me but based on that video the enemies appear to be a bit thick, I hope I'm wrong and they actually do more than go and stand where you just made a noise.

I've never been one to call games beautiful but Thomas was Alone was beautiful. This game looks way fun too. I just hope we get the same lovely British narration.

TwA was pretty baller but I'm not feeling this as much. Maybe it's the stealth, maybe it's the way it looks. Either way, I'll be keeping an eye on it.

Well that sure looked [INSERT OPINION HERE].

But man, should probably get around to play Thomas Was Alone one of these days, huh?
I mean I own it, so I don't really have an excuse.
