Grand Theft Auto V Includes "Male Genitalia" and "Necrophilia"

The ESRB's rating summary describes Grand Theft Auto V as being violent, crude, and open with nudity.

While Grand Theft Auto IV was arguably more somber and serious in its tone than past entries in the series, the franchise as a whole is still known for boundary pushing that occasionally steps into the gratuitous. For instance, the ESRB recently released its rating for Grand Theft Auto V (M of Mature, of course) and the rating summary gives a few glimpses into the game's content that might raise a few eyebrows prior to its launch.

Perhaps most notably, it describes a sequence that includes "male cult members with exposed genitalia in a non-sexual context." Now, obviously we're not pitching a fit over the presence of the male anatomy in a videogame. Being adults, many of whom possess the requisite junk that typically come with being a man, the sight of some "exposed genitalia" isn't going to make us faint from shock. That being the case, with Grand Theft Auto generally being a favorite whipping boy of the <a href=http://kotaku.com/5009076/gta-iv-causes-reprehensible-behavior-also-has-rape>family values crowd, you can probably expect this bit of nudity to appear as a bullet point on future "why games are the devil" lists for years to come. We only imagine that things like "topless lap dances," "implied fellatio," "depictions of dismemberment," and "a brief instance of necrophilia" will also be included.

Then again, considering the general madness the Saints Row series has been dishing out as of late, Grand Theft Auto might not be the most shocking kid on the block anymore. <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/10521-Saints-Row-IV-Review-Hilarious-and-Over-The-Top>Saints Row IV, after all, pretty well embraces the concept of <a href=http://www.esrb.org/ratings/synopsis.jsp?Certificate=32989&Title=Saints%20Row%20IV&searchkeyword=saints%20row%204>mature content, continuing, for instance, with fine traditions like the weaponized dildo. We have a feeling GTAV might be behind the curb in that department.

Depends entirely on context, and GTA5's context is entirely different from Saint Row's context. Sure it's still a black humour comedy, but it's not an adult version of the Looney Toons as the Saints Row franchise is.

I think mature isn't the best word to use when comparing SR4.
more OT: I don't really mind nudity or violence, I actually find it funny that violence is much more accessible in the media to young people than nudity. I actually think that video games could show full on sex scenes and more brutal violence, if it fitted the scene of course.

Considering how showing sexual things for the purposes of actually being sexual isn't really GTA's style, it's probably not a bad thing as long as they aren't going for "ha we're so edgy and mature".

Butbut[footnote]Hurr hurr, I said "butt".[/footnote]! You can't show dongs, the dudebros will get uncomfortable and not buy the game. Jugs or GTFO.

OT: Good. Hope there's some jiggle physics in there. (If it does get banned, it'll be a matter of days before mods are available to get it back in. Oh wait, I'm assuming there'll be a PC port! Teehee.)

Yep, this pretty much settles it. I'm getting a 360 for this game. I shall name it the Schlong-box.

GTA V actually sounds like a cool game, a return to form, and I don't feel like playing another shitty port several months later that barely runs on hardware several times more powerful than the console.

Good job Rockstar, I've resisted buying a console for a long time.

Off Topic
Escapist, do something about your bloody captha. Those things are IMPOSSIBLE to read, and I'm sick and tired of having to refresh the image 20-30 times before I can guess what it says.

Well a little bit of squick [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Squick] doesn't hurts.

But the rating boards in australia won't like that at all..and UASIES will get another neutered game.

Necrophilia.. eh yeah a small subsection there right. I guess they can remove it but why? If they want to squick why not!

Nope, it was rated R [http://www.classification.gov.au/Pages/View.aspx?sid=1rhDjetqedVcsbMwMH44Tw%253d%253d&ncdctx=p9Yyq3r76ook5ChysK81a%2bI%2bFzIkgOfCRglquC9Bf5PEUA2%2b2a9yHlVBrfDStP8yamsC5lQNLVh7BwRvZVqV1A%253d%253d]. Drug use (especially if it could in any way be considered an endorsement) is something the classification board comes down on like a tonne of bricks. for example they gave fucking Halo: Forward Unto Dawn [http://www.classification.gov.au/Pages/View.aspx?sid=7uG9EylUedetdX%252fjaKdGUQ%253d%253d&ncdctx=7yCvZJqFo8l6kNUhSuG9l9B%252fntibLqsUJaHrkNb6jxJzcdHqipCTdDbzXmhcqPQWSIcKn96R9MBIj1WNylQ6YQ%253d%253d] "Moderate impact" for drug use.

Not really that groundbreaking for Rockstar. Lost and Damned had full male nudity and Read Dead Redemption hat implied necrophilia

Rockstar's art department have clearly developed an addiction for modelling schlongs since GTA IV's DLC. I wonder where they get their reference material from...

GTA V has dicks in it? And fucking corpses?

Awesome, time for some gratuitous, misdirected and over-dramatic hyperbole.

Won't somebody please think of the parents?

They don't want to worry about whether or not the game they're buying has content appropriate for their children or which might potentially give them the gay or turn them into raping mass murderers! All this violence, smut and filth in games could actually force them to get involved in their kids upbringing and we very well can't have that, can we?

"A brief instance of Necrophilia."

Oh joy, the chances of this being released in Australia just went into the negatives. ('cos, you know, it's not like mature adults can moderate content themselves or anything.)

A TVtropes link? You evil, evil man. I had things to do today.

Is it a bad sign that people seem to be making a bigger deal over the penis than necrophilia?

So...GTA V makes news for having people standing around with their junk out, but people just kind of skim over all of the death, homicide, theft, assault and kidnapping that go on in it? Don't get me wrong, I love me some GTA and pedestrian paint jobs, but it's really funny how a penis shocks people more than murder in a videogame.

Well, assuming their modelling department is predominantly male, they could just look down

There's a joke here about having a cut version when talking about dicks in a videogame, but I just can't think of it

Pretty sure it's already announced it'll be released in Australia uncensored. At least I'm pretty sure it was in one of the news articles on this site.
