X-Files Creator Wants A Third X-Files Movie With Simon Pegg

X-Files creator Chris Carter is still hoping for a third X-Files movie.

The last X-Files movie [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_X-Files:_I_Want_to_Believe] may not have been too well received by fans and critics alike, but it isn't dousing creator Chris Carter's hopes of a third movie. Better still, he is considering British funny-man Simon Pegg for a guest role, if the movie were to go forward.

Fans of the series will know that "colonization date," the date when Aliens were set to invade and take over the earth, was set at December 22, 2012. That date has well and truly passed, and Carter thinks that that's too important to ignore. Unlike the second film which was fairly stand-alone, a potential third film would be deeply tied into the X-Files mythology.

"The colonization date (which was December 22 2012 in the series) has passed, and that is something we wouldn't ignore," Carter explained. "For the second movie, we only had the budget for a standalone story, but we want to go back to the mythology."

Carter noted while the decision was mostly in the hands of 20th Century Fox, he insisted that "all of us are interested in putting the band back together."

As for Pegg, Carter brought up that Gillian Anderson, who portrays Agent Scully, worked with him in How To Lose Friends And Alienate People, and he has been interested in bringing him on board as a guest role for some time.

"We actually thought about putting him in the second movie, but there was no part for him. I certainly would think about him if we were to go forward in any way."

I'd actually be cool with a third movie as long as it ignored "I Want To Believe." I still don't understand what made the story of that movie an X-File.

i dint mind the second movie. at least it was more down to earth which was a more welcoming treat, for me at least. third one, well, not much high hopes but as a fan, im sure interested.

There have been some decent X-Files comics between that second movie and now, so I think there's still some life in the concept - they'd need to let it evolve and not just tap back into what it was in the 90s, but I think they tried to do a bit of that with the second movie (not in a way that really worked, but still).

Id rather have the whol franchise rise again. it has a brilliant concept, one that was attempted again with alterations (for example warehouse 13) but none that has reached the glory of X-files.

Whenever I see a mention of Simon Pegg and Gillian Anderson together I always wonder if they've ever once brought up the series Spaced where Simon Pegg's character used to frequently fap to pictures of her. In some jokingly breaking-the-fourth-wall sort of "so your character used to fap to my character?" way and if it leads to laughs or awkwardness.

Well, I think all movies could use more Simon Pegg. However, I think it's best to let X-files die. I'd see third movie but the first 2 were merely Meh. This is coming from a guy that loved the tv show.

There was a 2nd X-Files movie? Huh. How about that.. I remember leaving disappointed. Of course I didn't heavily watch the series so maybe that is part of it.

I was a huge fan of the series, but the mythology of the last couple seasons was just plain horrible. With the last couple seasons, as well as the last movie in mind, i feel that the writers have lost their touch. Please just leave the X-files as it is.

It can be, considering the acts of the government lately. With good enough writers, the X-Files can be as big as it ever was.

In all honestly I was hoping the third movie would have randomly started playing at theaters worldwide on December 22nd last year.
Just absolutely out of nowhere it shows up at movie theaters and they roll with it because fox payed them to.

I don't care about Simon Pegg. Take him or leave him - I don't care. I care about The X-Files and I really really reaaallly want them to round up the conspiracy story. This was the biggest show in the 90s and was such a huge part of my life growing up, I can always remember staying up late with my brothers to watch Dana Scully get abducted. It was the talk of the school.

We don't need another Monster of the Week film like the second X-Files film, Chris. The first X-Files film was so perfect because it slotted in so beautifully. Season 5 had just started and it rolled so smoothly you could have considered it an episode. Granted the show went downhill after season 6 but... that was because you guys focused too heavily on comedyand you had Mulder and Scully boning in motel rooms off camera.

When the X-Files first started our goal was to find Mulder's sister but then it just so complicated and intricate the plot lessened. Nonetheless, I'm sure I speak for most X-Files fans when I say: we need it rounded up. December 22nd 2012, that was when the third film should have been made but there's still time!
