Team Fortress Comics One of The Only Things Ever Worth Reading

Team Fortress Comics #1 ranks up there with the beginning of a jet-ski manual when it tells you how to turn on the jet-ski as one of the world's greatest literary works.

Sometimes reading is its own reward. Not most of the time, obviously, but the Team Fortress 2 team believe that Team Fortress Comics #1 [http://www.teamfortress.com/tf01_ring_of_fired/] is one of the few times that it is. Team Fortress Comics #1, the first in a series of new 6 comics, is not the first Team Fortress 2 comic Valve have produced, but it's the first one not tied in to a major update.

"But we think you'll agree this comic series deserves to join the menu at the Olive Garden, Fitzscott Gerald's The Great Greatsby, and the beginning part of a jet-ski manual that tells you how to start the jet-ski as one of the three or four things humanity has produced that's actually worth reading," promises Valve.

"If I wanted to read a book, I'd kick it up your ass," said Greg, kicking a book up my ass. I never saw that book again. Often now, as an old man, when I watch the sun set on Greg's mansion from the tiny window of my room at the butt hospital, I wish i'd read it when I had the chance." - The Great Greatsby, Page 1

The story of Team Fortress Comics #1 revolves around the legendary Saxton Hale losing control of Mann Co. when he refuses to beat up a little girl. Our nine trusty mercs are fired by its new CEO, and scatter to their various corners of the world.

Six months later, Miss Pauling sets out to bring the team back together, starting with everyone's favorite homicidal patriot: the Soldier.

Despite what the Valve team said, this comic actually is accompanied by a Team Fortress 2 update [http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=11335], albeit, a relatively minor one. It adds "Chemistry Sets," an item that when combined with various other items, can transform hats from normal to "Strange" quality (strange quality hats track your scoreboard stats).

You can download the comic as a PDF, read it in your browser [http://media.steampowered.com/apps/tf2/tf01_ring_of_fired/download/tf01_ring_of_fired.cbr?v=1].

HOLD IT.

On the cover, is that a NAKED Saxton Hale?

my god, it is. Good thing they only showed his backside otherwise our faces would melt from his pure Australian manliness.

I always love when they release a new comic; it gives some back story to a game you'd think would never need one.

I don't really play TF2, have never read any of the other comics, and know nothing about the story or characters.

But that was bloody brilliant.

EDIT: Well whaddya know, 4000 posts. I'd like to thank my parents, for believing in me, and....well....nope, that's it.

Damn it, I'm so alone :-(

These comics are awesome. I can't wait to see the next installment and to figure out how Scout and Spy got into this mess. (I always figured Spy was too smart to get caught or did the paper mask not work this time?)

The scene with Pyro obviously cracked me up.

For a long time, I had been wondering if it would be possible to make a TF2 movie. After all, the shorts the series is known for wouldn't work as a full-length movie. But after reading the comic, I think THIS is how you would do a TF2 movie. You'd essentially have an overarching storyline like the comic, with "meet the team" style scenes peppered throughout it. It would work really well! C'mon Valve! Make a TF2 movie!

That fight scene is the best in existence. I love the last posture where Saxton just kinda sits there.

This is a great day in the comicverse and a great comic who doesn't love a bit of team fortress.

Who else thought that the doctor they saw would turn out to be the Spy?

Wait, it's illegal to kill Tom Jones? There goes my plans for the next week.

Hmm, where have I seen that cover before?

Ah, now I remember!

I thought it was a pretty cool tribute/rehash/shoutout on the artists' part. The comic is a fantastic read.

Surprise! Scout is actually Spy in disguise! Who was the Spy they photographed? Also Spy! It's all part of a cunning ruse.

Either that or someone saw him killing people with a butterfly knife.

OT: Does anyone know what the release schedule for these are? I'm hoping "every day, forever."

It's bimonthly...but with Valve time, it's more likely "whenever the next one is done"

OT: This comic is awesome! I love that fight scene. And it's surprisingly more involving than most mainstream comics as well.

I've never really been one much for comics, but I could definitely see myself getting into this series in particular because I simply love almost everything to do with TF2.

Also, these "Chemistry Sets" intrigue me. Strange hats? Now that's an interesting addition.

I always loved their comics, and this one was brilliant. The chemistry set is a meh for me, like I can see how it would be funny and how ppl would want it but get back to me when I can make my vintage weapons strange.

The title of this makes me so angry, and the things they compare themselves too do as well. I just can't see how a comedycentric comic can compare to Fitzgerald and the like. It's so obvious that valve are just trying to big up their comic to people who aren't interested in reading comics and actually reading such works as they are comparing themselves to. It's kind of pathetic actually.

If you read closely, you'll see that they are not comparing themselves to Scott Fitzgerald The Great Gatsby, but a made up book: Fitzscott Gerald's The Great Greatsby. You see, it's comedy, and in comedy there's a thing called "parody"
