Warcraft Film Begins Shooting Next Year
After years of false starts and dicking around, it appears that Warcraft - the film, not the game - is finally, really, no-foolin'-around ready to go. Production Weekly, a "film and TV production tracking database," tweeted yesterday that Legendary Pictures has set up offices at the Canadian Motion Picture Park [http://cmppstudios.com/] in Victoria, British Columbia, in order to begin filming on January 13.
The CMPP studio claims to be the "largest and newest purpose-built film and TV studio complex in Canada," and has served as home to films and television shows including Twilight, Watchmen, Tron: Legacy, Eragon, Supernatural, Battlestar Galactica and many others.
The announcement comes a little more than a month after a Warcraft teaser was unveiled at Comic Con, after which director Duncan Jones came on the stage and said that filming would begin in early 2014. That same time-frame was offered back in June [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/124567-World-Of-Warcraft-Movie-Starts-Filming-Next-Year] by producer Charles Roven.
I suppose it's good news for long-suffering Warcraft fans but it really would've been better back in, say, 2009, when Sam Raimi was still on the case. Not that Jones doesn't have the ability to do a fine job with it, but the Warcraft iron has cooled considerably over the past four years and it's going to be at least two more years before it finally hits the big screen. By the time it does, will anyone care?
