Warcraft Film Begins Shooting Next Year

[tweet t=https://twitter.com/prodweek/status/372753792917200897]
The long-awaited Warcraft movie will reportedly begin shooting in January 2014.

After years of false starts and dicking around, it appears that Warcraft - the film, not the game - is finally, really, no-foolin'-around ready to go. Production Weekly, a "film and TV production tracking database," tweeted yesterday that Legendary Pictures has set up offices at the Canadian Motion Picture Park [http://cmppstudios.com/] in Victoria, British Columbia, in order to begin filming on January 13.

The CMPP studio claims to be the "largest and newest purpose-built film and TV studio complex in Canada," and has served as home to films and television shows including Twilight, Watchmen, Tron: Legacy, Eragon, Supernatural, Battlestar Galactica and many others.

The announcement comes a little more than a month after a Warcraft teaser was unveiled at Comic Con, after which director Duncan Jones came on the stage and said that filming would begin in early 2014. That same time-frame was offered back in June [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/124567-World-Of-Warcraft-Movie-Starts-Filming-Next-Year] by producer Charles Roven.

I suppose it's good news for long-suffering Warcraft fans but it really would've been better back in, say, 2009, when Sam Raimi was still on the case. Not that Jones doesn't have the ability to do a fine job with it, but the Warcraft iron has cooled considerably over the past four years and it's going to be at least two more years before it finally hits the big screen. By the time it does, will anyone care?

That was my first thought also. But Blizzard could do something really awesome with it. The movie could be the cinematic story conclusion of World of Warcraft. Go out with a bang and all. But nah, that's not gonna happen. No fighting Sargeras, unfortunately.

Blizzard should announce a new Warcraft game around the time the teaser trailers for the film start coming out. That would create a massive boost of interest in the franchise.

I'm old enough to remember a time when advertising was just 30 seconds long and didn't cost you $15 plus snacks and, perhaps a carbonated soda.

This movie deserves a condescending nickname considering its past. Thrall Nukem, Forever?

Will the film be just as addicting?

Really? Transformers movie comes to mind.

OP: Well, I'm sure if this were released a few years ago, I'd care. But since Actibliz killed the series with pandas...
They had pandas in Warcraft 3.

What would be hilarious is for Blizzard to have somebody come in each quarter of the way through the movie and make everybody pay more for the movie they've already paid to watch and get them kicked out if they don't.

How do more pandas ruin anything anyway?

A few show up during the campaign of the The Frozen Throne, and they're one of the neutral heroes you can use during skirmishes.
True, but weren't the Pandarens in WC3 just suppose to be joke characters? Before the MoP expansion came out I'm not sure there was anything lore wise about the Pandarens.
