Bioware: Next Mass Effect on "The Right Track"

[tweet t=https://twitter.com/aidanscanlan/statuses/378214956660826113]

Bioware won't have anything to show from the new Mass Effect for "a while."

While Bioware is still be fairly mum on what exactly the new Mass Effect will be about, the developer hasn't been shy about telling gamers how good it will be. <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/126102-New-Mass-Effect-Moving-Forward>Back in July, for instance, cinematic director Ken Thain said that "fans will be really excited" when they play the game. Now, joining his praise, more voices from within the company have taken to Twitter to tell gamers how great the future game will be.

"Watching absolutely stunning work from [the Mass Effect] team," Tweeted community manager <a href=https://twitter.com/JessicaMerizan/statuses/378216260951367680>Jessica Merizan. "Such a passionate, talented group of devs." Aidan Scanlan, assistant director of design, expressed his own excitement <a href=https://twitter.com/aidanscanlan/statuses/378214956660826113>over Twitter. "Just saw a early presentation for the next Mass Effect. Good thing you weren't here because you would have Lost... Your... Shit!"

Bioware Montreal director Yanick Roy was also on hand to share in his colleagues' enthusiasm. "The rest of BioWare finally got to get a first look at the next Mass Effect. Their reaction tells me we're on the right track!" Even so, he <a href=https://twitter.com/YanickRRoy/status/378500361402601472>also affirmed that "it probably will still be a while before [Bioware] show anything publicly."

While there are probably plenty of people who would love to see whatever Bioware has to show off right now, it's hard to blame the company for wanting to take things slow and put its best foot forward. Mass Effect 3 as a whole was an <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/reviews/9458-Mass-Effect-3-Review>excellent game, but many still left the experience feeling burned on account of its <a href=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/columns/experienced-points/9506-Mass-Effect-3-Ending-Controversy>controversial ending. It's probably safe to assume Bioware wants to avoid a similar reaction with the next entry in the franchise. If that means the developers taking their time, then we say more power to them.

That's great, but is there any word what it's about? If it's a prequel I'm not sure I'd call that 'the right track'.

It's good that the rest of the article is there to frame this statement, because if I had read this as a standalone tweet like many people will/did I'm sure the normal reaction is "So what you're telling me is that it's way worse than expected?"

can I "lost my shit" in 3 different colors? :p ... probably I will never going to overcome my hate for ME3 ending but I do love the franchise and I'm looking forward to the next game :)

I, for one, don't understand people who want to keep their shit.

So, it'll have at least one kind of tank in it, real exploration, meaningful sidequests, procedurally generated landscapes and multiple possible solutions to singular problems?

Great, because you guys cut all of those things from number three and that's why I'm probably not buying number 4.

Whilst we're at it, real money gambling, let's not be having any of that, although given EA's obsession with it (And it's appearance in Battlefield 4 of all things) I'm not holding much hope.

Aidan Scanlan, guess what? People already lost their shit with the last Mass Effect game, but not in the way you're probably thinking.

I really did. I never felt that kind of rage because of a video game before. It took me a long time to get to the acceptance stage.

Never understood the massive hate over an ending like ME3 received. Looking forward to see what they do with the series from here on out.
Despite the loud minority, the community here voted Me3 game of the year. ;-)

That's exactly what they said for Mass Effect 3.

Biggest waste of $60.00 I ever spent.

I think I'm just going to leave this here.

Pretty much sums up all I have to say in regards to the myth that the people who hated the ME3 endings are a "vocal minority"

Also, how does one add the spoilers tag on the forums?

It was the final part of a brutal three part train wreck. Choices matter, a huh. But I'm not going to rehash the old bioware hate.

I'll simply say this, with EA's hold over them. We'll get on disc DLC, micro transactions, and it'll be FTP.

At this point it'd be better for them to just make a new IP.

Hahaha, yeah, awesome my ass.

Mass Effect 3's ending (And overall "GAHH WHAT THE FUCK"ness) has completely turned me off to the series. I don't know what it is, but I can't even get myself to play ME1 or ME2 now (Games that until recently were on my top 5 favorite games ever); that's how badly I feel burned by ME3.

Unless Mass Effect 4 is actually a complete rewrite of Mass Effect 3 with a great ending, great writing and a personal apology in the shape of a bucket of cookies and a refund for ME3 I have little interest in what they want to do next.

Fuck you Bioware. (Or at least the team that does ME, Dragon Age can still be redeemed).
