League of Legends Bug Allows Every Player To Pick The Same Champion

Ever imagined a League of Legends game where every champion was Karthus? Now, it's possible.

One of the overarching rules of MOBA type games like League of Legends is that only one player can pick a specific champion (or if you're playing blind pick, one player from each team). Well, thanks to a "bug" that League of Legends fans have discovered, it's now possible to play games without this restriction. Five Karthuses vs Five Sorakas? How about five Heimerdingers vs another five Heimerdingers? Check out the video to the right to see some of the crazy match-ups people are trying out.

The bug is accessed by editing some files in your League of Legends folder, and while we won't post exactly how to do it here, you can still experience the bug without modifying your game code by joining one of the numerous "5 X vs 5 Y" games that are currently being hosted in the custom game lobby.

Obviously, the mode is horrendously unbalanced, and not intended for public use. Apparently, Riot added a picking mode that allows the selection of duplicate characters a while ago, but it has remained undiscovered for so long. Internally, this mode is called GAME_CFG_BLIND_DUPE, which means that it may become an official game mode in the future, or was an idea that was scrapped and never fully removed.

We at The Escapist want to remind everyone that exploiting the game like this is technically against the Terms of Service. Riot isn't usually the kind of company to slam the banhammer down en masse for stuff like this, but just to be extra cautious, you may want to enjoy this one vicariously from YouTube videos instead.

This is hilarious. Blitz and Karthus are probably my favourite matchups here.

I really want to see 10 Lucians firing their ult at eachother.

Now all they need to do post a YouTube video with 5 Lee Sins versus another 5 Lee Sins and troll the ever living hell out of that douchenozzle XJ9 for that childish stunt he pulled with his (hopefully) ex-girlfriend.

Haha, ninja'd. Exactly what I thought.

Is it still OP when all are equal though?

As it turns out that was one of the first ones done, though I doubt it was related to XJ9.

The end result is way to much dashing to comprehend.

This seems less harmful and more amusing. It could break the game with the sledge hammer...not that I'd now. Frankly it doesn't sound too practical, sure five heavies may sound unstoppable in TF2, but they really aren't. I'd like to think the same principles apply here.

The only way to play this mode is through custom matches, which are regarded as the place where you go to "derp off" essentially, so it's really not going to have much bearing on your average queued game. So I think practicality is the last thing they'd be concerned with, honestly ;D

OK, that's pretty damn sweet and I sure as hell hope this becomes an actual game mode, preferably on SR as well. That being said, I'd love to see this mode in DOTA2 as well. 10 Meepos? Now THAT would be hilarity...

You can do that with custom lobbies.

Honestly I'm surprised LoL doesn't have this as a normal mode, fucking around with the rules are always funs in MOBAs.

My thoughts exactly.

OT: While this seems really neat if, say, the map randomed the same champions for everyone, I doubt Riot will keep it. 6v6 Twisted Treeline was a bug for awhile and they got rid of that despite the community's attempts to keep it in. Who knows, though.

The problem with this game type is that once a team pulls ahead, they're probably going to stay ahead. I mean, you have a small window to turn things around, but if you don't, the other team can just snowball you because everyone has the same kit and there can't be much changeup.

Also, all 5 heims seems great but there can be only 2 turrets per team so there goes that fun. And all Karth is just a garanteed Ace trade... until everyone buys the Hourglass.

The original DotA had this game mode on, it is mad fun, don't know why LoL won't do it.

Man, an all-Karthus team... a 5-pack of Requiems would be unholy.

Anyway, I wonder who would suck as a 5-of-the-same-person team?

Did a 10 alistar match and it was the funniest looking thing ever because it was like bumper cars with everyone ramming eachother around and taking almost no damage without getting multi slammed into a turret.
